A fantastic race named in honour of Accrington's (and probably Lancashire's) most famous athlete - Ron Hill. Ron won the Commonwealth Games and European Championship marathons and has run every day for over 50 years, even after breaking his sternum in a car crash. He's even got a street named in his honour that you will pass nearby on the course. Ron Hill is the perfect inspiration to get you out and running! The 10k is largely traffic free with road closures at the start and at the finish. It is Lancashire after all so there are always going to be hills! Also 1 mile fun run.

For the 2nd consecutive year I ran the Ron Hill Accrington 10K race. It was well organised and well marshalled. The course is good, with relevant roads closed off to ensure the safety of the runners. The uphill section along the old rail line is interesting and challenging. For the final 2 miles or so it is flat or downhill which obviously allows for fast finishes. The finish line had a good atmosphere, despite the cold weather, and the immediate availability, on the big screen, of race stats for the latest finishers is a bonus. I bettered last years time which added to my enjoyment of the race. I expect it will become a regular event for me!
