Called cheerfulness because you’re going to need bags of humour to complete it. Less running than the other distances but all the obstacles and just as much mud.
10k
If you’re looking to immerse yourself in the world of the Royal Marines Commandos then the 10k Courage course is the one for you; it's the closest in distance to the one undertaken by recruits when training for their coveted green beret.
Coming to the end of their 32 weeks of arduous training the future Royal Marines Commandos take on tests known as The Commando Tests which sees them test their Courage, Determination, Unselfishness and Cheerfulness, the four core values ingrained in all Commandos.
The first test the Royal Marine recruits take on is a 9k course across rough moorland and woodland terrain on Woodbury Common which includes the endurance training course.
What's included
- Team warm up with Royal Marines PTI
- Royal Marines cheering you on from each obstacle
- Well marshalled route
- Gifts on completion

A term of entry is that arms and legs should be fully covered. We recommend that you wear something comfortable. We would suggest knee, wrist and elbow pads, but they are not obligatory. Supportive footwear is also essential. Don’t forget to bring a change of clothes. Bins will be provided to throw away your wet muddy clothing, if you wish to dispose of it. You may wear fancy dress.
