A 7km multi-terrain Fancy Dress run, in and around Painswick in the Cotswolds, offering you a medal and the legendary homemade mince muffin as a reward at the finish. Much of this race is on footpaths, Woodland trails and Farm Tracks, but also includes some roads through the town. And yes there are hills, with a long offroad climb at 2k and a shorter steep road section at 6km into Painswick.

Also, there’s traffic free, trail event, the Rudolphs Dash for young runners.

Rudolph's Rampage and Rudolphs Dash routes

The race starts in a quite cul-de-sac opposite Painswick Rugby Club. Here the route drops via a private road into the Valley, and follows the Painswick Stream for about 1/2 mile before crossing over the weir and heading up a private lane to Gyde’s Farm where the ascent intensity starts to increase.

After 1/2mile a short stint on Wick Street leads into the rocky track onto Juniper Hill to Well Farm, one of the 2 major climbs in this event. Now on top of the hill breathtaking, so to speak, views of Painswick and surrounding valleys can be enjoyed. For the next 1 1/4 miles the flat, soft, muddy terrain of Frith Woods is followed, before a long descent into the Painswick Valley is commenced.Once reached a short but challenging road climb is ahead, in order to reach the famous Painswick Church with 99 Yew trees. Finally, a short descent back towards the Rugby Club and the finishing line beckons.

Previous Medical Conditions

If you have a known medical condition not declared upon event application or a change in a previous condition that you feel may affect you during this event, then you are advised to inform us as organisers of this change/addition.

Arrival Time

Please give yourself plenty of time to arrive, park and register. The last thing you want on event morning is to panic because you are running late (pun intended). We would suggest one hour before your event start time.

Safety Briefing

Please assemble in the Hall 10mins before the start of your race for a safety briefing & last minute instructions.

The use of headphones or music players

The Race permit for this event strongly advises that runners do not wear personal headphones/earphones to listen to iPods, MP3 players, smartphones or other personal music players whilst participating in the event. Why? Running whilst wearing headphones/earphones significantly reduces your ability to hear traffic, individual vehicles, instructions and warnings from the police, marshals and other people, and generally distracts your attention, increasing the risk of accident or injury to yourself and possibly other people.

If however you choose to participate in the event using such a device you accept full responsibility for your own safety and for the safety of anyone else who may be affected by your acts or omissions.

NOTE: You must remove your ear plugs completely when approaching a Road Junction or Crossing and you will be disqualified if you don’t adhere to this request

Did the Rudolph's Rampage (ages 15 yrs +) in 2019

A few people got lost in the woods. Not sure if some are not still wandering about in there somewhere! 3 out of 4 of our family group took a wrong turn or, more correctly, failed to make a turn, and they were running independently so I think the way markers must have been inadequate. Certainly there were not enough Marshall’s on the route at all the hidden turns. Otherwise it was a great run and great fun despite the freezing rain.
