About this event

Come and run in the Worthing Half Marathon. We have a super flat and fast One lap closed road course starting and finishing right on the seafront. A perfect Valentines weekend away (maybe for the runner in your family!) awaits you in this well known traditional seaside town. Fish and chips will never taste so good!! Roses are Red, violets are Blue, Worthing half marathon is the run for you! Runners navigate their way round the town for several miles before heading out West along the front of the sea and returning back along the promenade. This race is very very flat! Perfect pre-London, Brighton and other Spring marathons. Probably the closest you can get to preparing for a full marathon ove the half distance with SOS Rehydration on the course, full professional medical back, warm race village within the pavilion for family. Pre-post race massage, local eateries and pubs. All in all a great weekend away.

Route description

Runners start adjacent to New Street on Marine Drive just west of the lido. They run west for 1.2 miles with a small additional loop before a U-turn at George V Avenue and head back east. At 3.5 miles they head up W Buildings and run an anti clockwise loop of suburban roads, Spectators could jump between the points quite easily on Grand Avenue with just 670 metres from seafront to the North most point (Lansdowne Road). At 7 miles runners return to the seafront and head west until 10.5 miles where they turn on the barren lands of the western most point and head back east. Once back at 12.5 miles they will swing right onto the esplanade for 800 metres and into the finish.

It was a good, flat, fast course that helped me get a PB. It was well organised to an extent but the water stations (one in particular) weren't great, with either lots of people having to stop for a few minutes, or missing out all together if they were going for a time. The atmosphere was great at the start and end but apart from that there wasn't really one. Not the race organisers fault really because it was not great weather and the fact there were only 2000 entrants meant there were only that many people or less supporting their friends/family and they were mostly at the start/ finish. If you want a PB or a specific time though, this is a great race!

I ran a 10k-race in Worthing before but I did the Worthing Half Marathon for the first time. I knew that it has a flat course but I never expected that I would do a PB. The organisation was good. I enjoyed my run so much with my friends from our running club. I would like to join the Worthing Half Marathon 2020.

This was my first half marathon so was not sure what to expect. It was well organised. The course was a bit boring but when you have to fit the miles in you need to expect it to be a bit repetitive. The atmosphere was not bad especially as the weather was not great. This is a great run for training for a full marathon. Its a flat course so fast. I would definitely recommend it

I dont have a problem with cups at water stations but paper would be better!! No only on the environment but also for practicality of drinking! You can squeeze a paper cup to a make a point to make drinking and running and easier. Drinking out of plastic cups was impossible even at a slow plod. Ended up throwing more water over my face than in my mouth. Also there were no buffs at the end which I thought was included in the entry/

Really well organized event, great atmosphere and flat course. Possibly less turns on the course if possible, however I understand this is very much based on road closures and access.

The only thing is to take into account that it is quite blustery being by the sea, especially a 3 mile stint around mile 8 running into the wind so just bear that in mind and save some energy for that.

Great for PB's if the coastal winds are down as it's as flat as a pancake. The course is a but twisty and turny and the atmosphere is lacking that of Brighton. Still a good race though and one I'll continue to enter.

Nice straight forward race. Runners can wait inside the pavilion in the warm before the start of the race. Worth making your way to the start at least 15 mins before the start as its a distance away. Also there are no time markers at the start so its a bit of a free for all with some slower runners up front.

Having run the Worthing half since its first year I have loved seeing it grow. Its a completely flat course - when some races say theyre flat and theyre not - Worthing half is :)Its such a great route and you can keep nice and warm before the race in the pier theatre or the cafe that is adjacent to the pier.

I wasn't expecting the head wind, which isn't the organiser's fault but a consequence of running near the coast. It would be nice to have more in the way of sea views given the location

The first half of the course winds through the roads of Worthing and is similar to the mid section of the Brighton Marathon so helps to focus your mind on what to expect with the Marathon.

Great, flat, closed road event. The wind will get you! Well supported. My only criticism would be one or 2 of the marshalls. As a slow runner, we found we were having to move out of the way of cars a fair few times. A few times we had to ask directions as we thought we had gone a wrong way due to traffic being on the road/motorbikes weaving around us & the marshalls looking only at their mobile phones rather than stopping the traffic/giving us the heads up. Roads were supposed to be closed til 1pm and we were within that time. That said, aside from the odd one or 2, the marshalls were FANTASTIC! A really friendly bunch!

My only comment would be about the bag drop. Whats the point of asking us to put a number on our bags if we just leave them in a room and collect them ourselves at the end? It gave an impression of security but I could have picked up anyone's bag, and anyone could have picked mine up. I have organised events for a motorcycle club with a helmet store and I think you're opening yourself up for problems if something goes missing, you'd be better off saying bags can be left at owners risk etc.

The course is fine and conducive to a quick race the main was that while running down the roads away from the seafront it was lacking in crowd. However, this maybe because it is a new race and may get better

First time running Worthing after Brighton, Reigate, Thorpe Park and Lilleblt (Denmark). Although the "no pens" makes the start more egalitarian, as a faster runner and late starter, I would have preferred to be closer to the start rather than having to weave around for slower runners for the first half mile. For the bag drop - I've only ever seen them organised behind tables by staff. When I came to drop mine, I could not even see the bag drop sign, and was just told to leave it on the floor. Worthing is not an unknown small race (a lot more participants than I expected) so this should be better organised in future for sure.

The stretch along the seafront is quite exposed so be prepared to drop your pace if it's a windy day. We had a strong westerly wind for miles 8,9 & 10 which made it really tough but on the plus side, it was behind us for the final 3 miles.
