Route description
Route description

This is a flat course with minimal elevation changes. The route is along well-maintained pathways, mainly on crushed stone. Obviously being in the middle of a forest, the narrower ones are covered in tree detritus and can become a bit muddy, especially when wet.

The route covers 3.3 miles and is open for 6 hours. This event is about setting your own pace and seeing how many miles you can crack out in the beautiful setting that is Salcey Forest.

How to get there

Salcey Forest, Salcey Forest NN7, UK

Get directionsExternalLink

To get to Salcey Forest, use the post code NN7 2HX for Sat Navs. It's 18 minutes from Northampton and 9 minutes from Junction 15 of the M1.

You do have to pay to park (£6 at the time of writing). This money goes to the forest, it is a great space that needs money and this is their main revenue stream. That said, be a hero and car share, save money and the world.

The closest train station is Northampton.

Frequently asked questions
FAQ
Is this the first running of this event?
Not really! We've had multiple 6-hour events at Salcey Forest over the last couple of years, but this is the first time we've had a series here.
FAQ
Is this event cup-less?
Yes. It's obviously good for the environment to reduce plastic use and general waste. You won't break a world record having to stop to fill a bottle of water or carry a hydration pack, but over a marathon distance it would probably add less than a minute to your time. Big Bear events will have water, isotonic drinks, tea and coffee and real Coca Cola for you, but to be clear, they won't supply disposable cups for drinks. You can buy a foldable cup from them on the day.
