The Shobdon Wood race is a completely off-road race organised by Croft Ambrey Running Club. It takes place in Shobdon Woods, just one mile out of the North Herefordshire village of Shobdon, which is on the B4362 between Leominster and Presteigne. The race will be signposted from the Mortimers Cross entrance to the North of the village and from the approach from Presteigne.
The race headquarters is the old Forestry Commission field centre (Post Code HR6 9PB) where there is parking and toilet facilities. Parking may be limited so please car share if possible. Either register or collect your race number and momento before the start, allowing for a 10 minute walk of approximately quarter of a mile to the race start. Doughnuts and refreshments will be served at the end of the race.
Prizes are awarded for top 3 finishers, most veteran age categories and for male and female teams of 3 in a short presentation when all the runners have crossed the finish line.

Shobdon Wood Race route
The race is approximately 9 km, mainly along well-marked forestry tracks and footpaths with only short stretches likely to be muddy if the weather has been particularly wet. Portions of the race route are along the Mortimer Trail long distance footpath which extends 30 miles, linking Kington in Herefordshire to Ludlow in Shropshire. On a clear day, there are great views over Mortimer Forest and the hills of Herefordshire, Shropshire and Mid-Wales.
The route is a mix of level running, gently ascending and descending with a challenging downhill and uphill stretch approximately 1 mile from the end. The descent to the finish goes down a picturesque footpath through deciduous woods, which is often surrounded by bluebells.
