The race is approximately 9 km, mainly along well-marked forestry tracks and footpaths with only short stretches likely to be muddy if the weather has been particularly wet. Portions of the race route are along the Mortimer Trail long distance footpath which extends 30 miles, linking Kington in Herefordshire to Ludlow in Shropshire. On a clear day, there are great views over Mortimer Forest and the hills of Herefordshire, Shropshire and Mid-Wales.
The route is a mix of level running, gently ascending and descending with a challenging downhill and uphill stretch approximately 1 mile from the end. The descent to the finish goes down a picturesque footpath through deciduous woods, which is often surrounded by bluebells.
