Route information
Terrain Mixed
Elevation 10k: 1200ft Half Marathon: 1687ft
Both routes will start a short walk away from where you will have parked at the Show ground. Marshals will escort you to a playing field on the opposite side of the main road in Stanhope. From here the route will cross a couple of fields below Ashes Quarry, before turning left and climbing up East Lane. At the top of the lane you will then head out onto the open moors, and after some ups and downs eventually reach the top of Collier Law. A nice downhill section before the two routes part company.
The 10k route takes a sharp left and crosses the road to start descending down the Stanhope fell race route – this part is quite tricky and you will need to be nimble and fleet of foot. Then a short climb, followed by a long descent to reach some beautiful single-track woodland paths, passing a waterfall en route. Follow the burn back to the main road into Stanhope where you will be greeted with rapturous cheer!
The Half Marathon runners will turn right where the routes part and continues with the climb up to Parkhead Station café, where we will have food and water to aid your recovery. From here you will cross the road and head off in search of the old winding station at Bolt’s Law – a tricky single trail to start with, but shortly opening onto a wide gravel track. Once you have passed the old winding station, look out for a left turn which will take you onto more open moorland and a small track used for access to shooting boxes. Follow the trail across the moors and eventually arrive at the foot of the Stanhope fell race route, then re-join the 10k, heading for home.
