Event summary
Here are the distances available for Staunton Harold Open Water Doggy Aquathlon
Route information
Lake Swim: 100m
↠ This is an exclusive opportunity to swim in the beautiful lake at Staunton Harold, you and your doggo will swim from a lowered purpose built floating pontoon into the lake out to a buoy 50 metres away and swim back to the other pontoon so a total of 100m in total. We can provide a shorter distance if we receive a few requests.
↠ Wetsuits are optional, if you don’t have a wetsuit, it may be a good idea to wear a tight fitting light weight or swim skin top to protect your skin against potential scratches.
↠ There will be water safety kayaks out on the lake at all times.
↠ Lifejackets for the dogs are optional but can help greatly with confidence and peace of mind.
↠ We have partnered with the Snow Paw Store who have kindly offered a store wide discount to our entrants and the availability to either rent or buy a life jacket with a saving. Please email us as info@endorphinsport.comExternalLink for details/code ONCE you have signed up.
The Transition:
↠ After you exit your swim, you will run up to the Transition 20 metres away.
↠ As soon as you enter Transition, please WALK to clip your dog onto a stake out line or have a family/friend to hold them whilst you get ready for your run, i.e take off wetsuit (if wearing one), put on your trainers etc.
↠ You will then attach your bungee lead to your dogs harness and WALK OUT of transition to the Run Start.
↠ If your dog suffers with their feet pads getting sore after coming out of water, we recommend doggy boots that will protect their feet and can be worn in the water too)
↠ The run out the water is on grass/Transition is on grass but then the first part of the run is on tarmac then off onto a mixture of grass and hard packed trail.
The Run: 2.5km OR 5km
↠ The run is a mixture of tarmac (the estate roads) into grass and hard packed trail around Bignalls Wood, an option of 2.5km and 5km.
↠ Parts of the run are off-road so you will need grippy running shoes (ideally trail shoes) NO SPIKES.
↠ Temperatures/Dog Welfare - We have made the event early in the morning, possibly even starting at 7:30am- 8am (we'll confirm nearer the time depending on weather forecast) so it will still be at a comfortable temperature for the dogs.
The Hall and transition area looks across the lawn at the serene green lakes of the estate, giving the venue an intimate feel and allowing a vantage point from every angle for your supporters to cheer you on. Finished by a picturesque run through the estate and the National Forest Bignalls Wood.
