The Storm The Fort duathlon is the main event of the day and is not for the faint of heart. The amount of climbing will test the toughest of athletes. Your reward though, is breathtaking, unspoilt scenery to rival anything you have experienced in a race before. See below for an overview of the course.

Storm The Fort Duathlon route

Run 1 – 20km
A very challenging 20km route that starts and ends on road. The majority of the route is on footpaths, trails and forest paths and after circumnavigating Colstey Wood, continues on to Sunny Hill and the ancient Bury Ditches Hill Fort.  After the Fort summit, there will be a short section that skirts the hill before retracing the route back through Gilden Down and back to transition.

Bike Course – 91km
The bike course heads north from Clun towards Bishops Castle.  The first key climb ascends from the A489 and to the summit of the Kerry Ridgeway. A long fast descent back to Clun is then followed by the notoriously leg-sapping double-climb from Clun to New Invention and then to Knighton. The course then head back to Purslow via Twitchen and rolls gently back to Clun. Beware – this is a tougher course than the profile suggests.

Run 2 – 11km
Two laps of a 5.5km route, the second run leg heads away from Clun with an initial long drag up hill before turning around for a fast descent. Followed by circling the town via the river, the church and finally the picturesque castle, before heading through the streets and back to race HQ, before completing another loop and finally in to finish the race.

The minimum age for entry for all events is 18yrs old on the day of the race.

You will pick up your race entry pack at the race venue. This can be done either on Sat 6 October or on the morning of the race.

Full details of where, when and how to pick up your registration pack will be announced approximately 1 month before the race day.

Kit List

Due to the nature of the run we would suggest that you consider wearing trail running shoes, or at least monitor weather conditions and if there has been significant rain in the lead up to the race then a standard running shoe may not give the optimal amount of grip. The bike course would be suitable for either a road or a time trial bike. Mountain bikes will not be permitted for the duathlon. You must wear a helmet to race. No Helmet = No Race!!!

Spectators

We will encourage athletes to bring family and friends with them. Due to the challenging nature of the duathlon and half marathon in particular, athletes will benefit from support from friends and family.

FAQs

Is drafting allowed in the duathlon?

No. The race will be run under British Triathlon rules and regulations. A copy of these can be found on the British Triathlon website.

Are there ‘cut-off’ times for the Hard Fort duathlon?

Yes. Run 1 = 3hrs after race start (11am), Run 1 & Bike = 7hrs 30mins after race start (3.30pm). Total = 9hrs 30mins after race start (5.30pm)
