About
The Stornoway Half marathon is a popular island race that has been taking place annually since 1984, making 2019 the 36th edition. The Stornoway 10k was added to the event in 2010 and has also proved very popular since. The route is an exciting mix of road and trail, firstly taking runners on a tour of greater Stornoway then onto the beautiful forest trails of the Lews Castle Grounds. Don’t worry the trails are very runnable and suitable for road shoes! The Half Marathon starts and both races finish right in the heart of the town centre on the inner harbour next to the marina which is always full of cheering fans and a great atmosphere.

If you plan to travel to Stornoway by ferry you need to arrive on the Friday at latest to make the Saturday 10am race start. You can travel from Ullapool to Stornoway or Uig (Skye) to Tarbert (Harris).

Runners travelling to the island via the Ullapool to Stornoway ferry can either take the bus to Ullapool or drive and leave their cars there. Travelling as a foot passenger is fine if you don’t plan to travel outside of town. Registration, race start and most accommodation in the town will be no more than a 10 minute walk. If you plan to take your car to the island we would recommend booking well in advance.
It is possible to catch the afternoon ferry from Stornoway to Ullapool on Saturday after the race, but we would recommend staying until Sunday to enjoy the post race hospitality and evening ceilidh!
If you take the Uig to Tarbert ferry it is an approx. 45 minute drive to Stornoway.

There are multiple daily direct flights from Inverness, Glasgow and Edinburgh to Stornoway with Loganair.

Event day logistics
Half Marathon start
The Half Marathon will start at 10:00am near the Lifeboat Station on the Inner Harbour. Runners should be at the start line by 9.45 at the latest for the race briefing.
All races finish on the quay near the lifeboat station.
10k start
The 10K will start at 10.50am near the Bridge Centre on Bayhead Street, approx 400m from the Inner Harbour Start/finish area. Runners should assemble at the Bayhead Bridge Centre by 10.40am.
