A rural point to point race starting at Nether Lethame Farm, on the outskirts of Strathaven and finishing in Kirkland Park, Strathaven next to the primary school. The route is an undulating steady climb for the first 6 miles followed by a largely undulating downhill component and is accurately measured. The race takes place through exposed elevated terrain in the middle of winter and runners must be suitably attired for the race. We would expect all runners to carry a hat, waterproof jacket and trousers as a minimum. This will be checked at registration.; The race passes through some wonderful scenery including woodland and rural areas and at the half way stage passes by Whitelees Windfarm (the largest in Europe) where there are also stunning panoramic views over the Clyde Valley basin. We will be using chip timing -this means that you will receive an accurate and fast result for your start to finish line time. The race profile and route will be published on the Strathaven Striders website.; Registration takes place in Kirkland Park School, Kirkland Park Avenue, Strathaven ML10 6DY from 0815. From here competitors will be led by a small pipe band up Lethame Road to the race start (approximately 1 km) - this will be graduated and used as a warm up. The warm up procession to the start line will commence at 09.45.

Where and how many water stations there were.
  • Did the Half Marathon in 2018

Potentially a very exposed course due to location and the time of year, luckily conditions this year were close to perfect. Not a PB route but a good early season test.

Tough course but very scenic. Shame my garmin showed it to be a little short on distance??

Really well organised rural half marathon. Would definitely do it again

No very well informed. Only thing I did not like was the water cups can't drink from them and run so had to stop which cost me time.

Did this race 3 times now. It's a winter race therefore you should wear layers and be prepare for the typical British weather. People should be told the very last stretch is a sharp turn up a smalll climb and onto a grass finish.

Was a great early start to 2018. The uphills are challenging but the downhills are ample reward.

Dont wear too much, wont take long before youre warmed up so the breeze is welcome as you get near the wind farm
  • Did the Half Marathon in 2018

Windy course, always forget how cold it can get, so a windproof jacket is probably a good shout!

Really enjoyed it, even considering I had a cold, nice hard race, only mini gripe I had was my Garmin came in a little short, same happened with my friends devices, bit as I said only a mini gripe, definitely be there next year
