Route information
The Sussex Downs Half Marathon starts out from Plumpton Racecourse, right at the foot of the South Downs National Park. This course has unspoilt views, fast, long-ranging trails, and challenging climbs, making it the perfect event for all types of runners.
The Sussex Downs Hald Marathon course starts with a mostly flat 3.5k section amongst trees before a climb up to the South Downs Way. Your hard work getting up this hill will be well worth it when you see the spectacular views over the Sussex countryside, the Seven Sisters Country Park, and far-reaching sea views.
From there, you'll be taken along sturdy trails towards Brighton before heading back up South Downs Way. Finally, you'll enjoy a downhill stint with vast views before a flat 3k to the finish line.

Charging £3 for bag drop on top of a £40 entry fee was disappointing and felt like a rip off. Course was narrow at many points so passing was hard. Definitely start at the front if you're looking at a fast time.

Advance information was poor. Runners pack had no information. Email that they said would arrive 1-2 weeks before the event came 5 days before the event - and said to wear trail shoes, which I don’t have. Far too late to buy at that stage. There had been no information about the terrain, only about the gradient. Final email which arrived the night before said arrive at the site 30-45 mins before start time - but if you’re planning to come from some distance and car sharing as requested that’s far too late to rearrange setting off time (I’d planned to be there 15 mins before start time). Also, the video of the route did it the wrong way round and clearly didn’t tie in with the route information. It was fine on the day but it all felt a bit chaotic in the run-up and didn’t inspire confidence.

Didn’t like having to pay for the bag drop - if this is needed please warn people prior to the event. Facilities were good but it would have been nice with a few more signs for the toilets to prevent queues. The course was beautiful and the runners were all super friendly. Would def do it again!

Would have been good to know that bag drop was £3. Also some enforced walking in first quarter of the event.

No bag drop according to the organiser website. I usually find a secluded place to leave my bag. It’s always been there when I get back

Normally that wouldn't be an issue but you are on the last start wave of the day - the starting area will be shutting down shortly after 10:30 so I suggest you aim earlier to give yourself some breathing space.
