Route information
The Sussex Downs Half Marathon is set in The South Downs National Park in Mid-Sussex. Starting from the well-equipped Plumpton Racecourse, right at the foot of the South Downs, it is in easy reach of Brighton, Haywards Heath, Lewes, Burgess Hill and the A27/ A23. The Sussex Downs Half Marathon has a lot to offer.
Whether it’s picturesque and unspoilt views you’re after, fast and long-ranging trails or a challenging climb, there’s something for everyone. There are two routes to choose from: 21km Half Marathon route and a 12.5km Standard route.
The routes start with a flattish 3.5km tree lined section to warm up the legs before a tough climb up to the South Downs Way. The climb will reward you with spectacular vistas over the Sussex countryside, the Seven Sisters Country Park and far reaching sea views. From here you will run a visually rewarding loop on sturdy trails towards Brighton before heading back up to the South Downs Way which will overload your senses with its amazing scenery.
You will then descend from the Sussex Downs hilltop enjoying the vast and sprawling views before a flat final 3km to the finish. Catering will be available to fuel you back up after your run!
The event is timed and will have water station(s) on route to keep you hydrated.
Regardless of experience or ability, we actively encourage new runners to our events and have 2 route lengths to choose from: Epic (21km) and a Standard (12.5km).Please Note: We are unable to cater for Canicross at this event.

Event day logistics
Event Day Timings
7:30am - Venue Opens
The car park opens to allow runners to prepare themselves for the race and grab a coffee.
9:15AM - 21km Distance Race Start!
The race kicks off as the Half Marathon distance runners cross the start line.
9:30AM - 13km Distance Race Start!
The race kicks off as the Medium distance runners cross the start line.
1:30pm - The Race Finishes / Cut-off Time
Your adventure finishes, you will cross the finish line and collect your bag full of goodies.
2:00pm - The Event Centre Closes
The venue closes.
Course Signage
The race will be clearly signed using PINK arrows and PINK tape.
We will also mark hazards and road junctions with 'Caution' signs. Please take care at these points.
Running Pack
Your Running Bib will be sent out to you 1-2 weeks prior to your event date.
If you have your bib already, they is no need to register on the day. If you do not have your bib, head over to registration on the the day of the event, before the start of your race to collect it.
