Route information
Half Marathon
This route will take you across the moorland at the Northern end of the Llyn Brenig, before a loop of the Nature Reserve. Expect a short ascent before an enjoyable run across the Alwen Dam. Make sure to keep some energy in your legs before a snappy ascent to the finish.
10k
This route starts at the finish area for the Half and makes its way across the dam before heading to Pentrellyncymer. You will traverse the wide-reaching moorland on a nice fast course before running along the shore of the Alwen Reservoir. Follow the undulating course before a downhill sprint to the finish line.
5k
The 5k route has a fast start across the Brenig dam before descending briefly on the 10k route. The route then heads left on winding tracks into the Clocaenog Forest before eventually emerging beside the lakeshore for a breathtaking finish.

The course was advertised as a fell race, but on the day itself the 10k route was a flat gravel track road, and far from being circular it was a there and back route. It would have been useful if the change of route was sent to competitors a week before the race to enable good kit decision making. On the day of the race it was unclear where the 10k was starting from and how long it would take to get to the starting point. The timings were not great, and it seemed that not everyone’s time was counted. So unfortunately, the organisation was a little ramshackle. That said, it was a good atmosphere and I’d like to run it again, albeit the actual route and not a flat one round one side of a reservoir.

I couldn’t recommend you guys any less to be honest if I could do 0 stars I would, you did a well and truly terrible job at the 10k trail race from my experience.Reasons1 course changed ,yea it’s not your fault and you had no control, but to find out 10 seconds before starting, 0 excuse for that2 staff the marshalled didn’t care about the event creating a terrible energy3 not even a starting line? All the runners were gathered together some even talking amongst themselves then the chap who signalled the start told us the race course changed then 3..2..1 go 4 the course wasn’t even 10k, mine clocked in at 10.6k? 5 maybe because of reason 4 the results were wrong, by quite a lot might I add. also my name was spelt wrong and was listed as a female even though I’m male Something I’d be looking forward for a while and spent my own time training for! (Maybe you should think about that and in-still that in the staff before hand) For it the end up like that was extremely disappointing, by far the worst race experience I’ve had

This event was very unorganised and underwhelming. The course was changed on the day and it definitely wasn’t a two lakes trail- having trained for steep hills the new course (an out and back) was not steep at all- very frustrating. The start line was unclear and rushed and the trail was longer than it was meant to be. The tracking system in inaccurate and takes two days to upload the results. Water stations, finishing line and medals were poor- general public walking in the way of the finish line and cars driving on the running track causing you to stop. I would not recommend.

10k appeared to be 1/2 mile longer than it should be.

Route had to be changed due to work being done by Natural Resources Wales, so it ended up as just an out and back along Brenig. Disappointed to have not got any race results through yet.
