The events take place high up on the Denbigh Moors and make great use of the Alwen and Llyn Brenig Reservoirs. All the routes stay above the 300m contour and cover a variety of different terrains including moorland paths, technical woodland sections, minor roads and dirt tracks.
The Half Marathon starts along the Eastern shore of Llyn Brenig before crossing the moorland at the Northern end of the lake to begin a loop around to the Nature Reserve. Runners are then faced with a fairly lengthy ascent to over 400m but are rewarded for their efforts with a spectacular run back across to the Alwen dam. All that is left is one final ascent to the Brenig dam and to cross the finish line.
The 10k route starts at the finish area for the Half and makes it's way across the dam before heading to Pentrellyncymer. Runners are treated to a fast moorland section, before crossing the road to the shores of the Alwen Reservoir. This is followed by an undulating section with a fair amount of climbing before the downhill sprint finish to where the race began.
The 5k route has a fast start across the Brenig dam before descending briefly on the 10k route. The route the heads left on winding tracks into the Clocaenog Forest before eventually emerging beside the lakeshore for a breathtaking finish.
