Come and join us for 1 or 2 days of fun in the forest! The 401 Festival of Running is coming to the beautiful setting of Sherwood Pines just outside Nottingham for the first time ever. During The 401 Challenge, the support from the local running community in and around the Nottingham area was outstanding, hence why we picked this location to launch one of our festivals. For this event, we have partnered with the lovely ladies at Notts Womens Runners. With adult races including 5km, 10km, Half Marathon and our famous Festival Challenge (26.2 miles across the weekend!), plus 4 children’s races there is so much to choose from for the entire family to enjoy.Enjoy good quality food and drink along with a FREE evening film in our events village just as the sun sets over the forest, this year it's ‘The Goonies’, a true classic! Enjoy bespoke quality made bling (totally worth it!), along with the chance to buy a piece of our event merchandise all with a #bemoreeco twist. Our events are designed to cater for everyone, no matter if you are a beginner or someone that likes to go flat out. Our events are made even more special because of our incredible volunteers who really add to the supportive and friendly atmosphere of the event across the weekend. Whether you are first or last over the finish line, you’ll be greeted by a smile and maybe even a hug. We want you to go away from this event with your confidence boosted and feeling great about yourself, because after all, that’s what running is all about. We can’t wait to see you in July, it’s going to be epic!

Routes have been provisionally signed off by The Forestry Commission and are now subject to official measurement by UKA. We have attached the routes below so you can see what you are signing up for, please understand we will be working on better map designs and once the courses are officially measured these will be relaunched along with elevation maps to give you a true idea of the courses themselves.
All of our courses are on a hard gravel path so be aware that if it rains it could get a little muddy. The courses are undulating in places, further information will be shared once we have confirmed the measurement of each course with UKA.
We include mile markers on all of our courses
We do not have this facility, however, feel free to pace each other.
Each route with the exception of our 500m and 1 Mile races will have either 1 or a number of water stations included throughout the course. We automatically provide you with a reusable cup that you can use during the race, simply fill these up at any of our water stations. There will be water available in the finishing funnel area as well. Stay hydrated and if you want to bring your own water bottle or hydration pack, please feel free.
Organiser route images
As standard, your pack will consist of an eco-friendly canvas bag that holds your bib number (inc chip for main races), safety pins and a reusable cup. If you have bought or are being given merchandise as part of a package this will be included as well. Any issues with sizing, please let one of our team know and we will do our best to sort it for you, please understand that we don't place big orders so stock is limited.
Your race pack can be collected from the 'Information Tent' in our Event Village prior to your event. Please ensure plenty of time as we don't post our packs out so lots of people will be picking theirs up on the day

Normal headphones are allowed in our Nottingham races however all we would ask is that you stay aware of other individuals that are around you as we wouldn't want any accidents happening. Bone conduction earphones are a safer option but we know they aren't for everyone.
We welcome all abilities when it comes to our races. With blind runners specifically, we offer a free place to any guide runner required. Please contact us via email at ahead of booking, we can provide a FREE code and your guide runner will get a medal and race pack as well.
Our courses are suitable for wheelchair users, however, please contact us via email at ahead of booking your ticket, as this may change once our courses have been officially measured and any alterations are implemented. In some cases, assistance may be required.
We regret to inform you that bikes are unable to accompany you during your race, this is for the safety of other runners.
The bag drop is located next to the Information Tent in the Events Village. You will be given the opportunity to place your bag in the Bag Drop Area however The 401 Challenge Ltd cannot take any responsibility for loss or damage to any items you leave in your bag, you leave them at your own risk. That said our Volunteer Events Team will ensure they are kept as safe and secure as possible. You are able to access your bag at any time during race days.
Please ensure plenty of time to drop off your bag as races will not be delayed and any bags left unattended will be removed and potentially destroyed due to security concerns.

Absolutely loved this event! Brilliant! Well organised and a stunning course at Sherwood Pines. I thought the reusable cup was fab - just folded up into my waistband. Really friendly atmosphere- I’ll definitely do this again next year! Thank you to the organisers and all the volunteers! Great job!

whilst the course was good (albeit challenging), the water stations could have been a lot better; I'm all for reusable cups rather than single use plastics, but the ones supplied were so flimsy you were forced to stop and have a drink rather than grab one and carry on running. I also thought the location/event signage on the way in could have been better.
