Route information
Cumbria's leading half marathon is back for 2024, returning to the historic city of Carlisle. Now in its 40th edition, this event is now managed by the social enterprise Better and Sport in Action. Perfect for the whole family, the event also features a 10k and two fun runs designed to cater all ages and abilities!
The Great Cumbrian Half Marathon - Starting in Bitts park close the Victoria statue, the mainly closed-road half marathon route will go through the City Centre then head to Houghton, Linstock, Rickerby park passing the War Memorial to the fallen of the Great War (1914-1918) crossing the Memorial Bridge and running along the new path back to Bitts park and then to the finish on the track at Sheepmount Athletics Stadium.
The Great Cumbrian 10K - Starting along side the Half Marathon, the mainly closed-road 10K route will go through the City Centre then head up Brampton Road taking the turning into Rickerby park turning right passing the War Memorial to the fallen of the Great War (1914-1918) crossing the Memorial Bridge and running along the new path back to Bitts park and then to the finish on the track at Sheepmount Athletics Stadium.
The family fun runs are relaxed events designed to help you raise money for a worthwhile local cause and accomplish personal goals. The first run is open to everybody and is not timed. You'll cover about a mile in distance, heading through Bitts Park to the finish on the track at the Sheepmount Athletic Stadium.
The second family fun run is open to 11-16 year old's and covers approximately 3.1 miles. This run has timing available for those that want to be a bit more competitive. The course follows The Great Cumbrian Run Route for 3.1 miles before turning to the finish on the track at the Sheepmount Athletic Stadium.

There is lots of parking available at the Castle & Swift Bank carparks, plus several other carparks around the city centre.
By Public Transport
The race start is a 15-minute walk from Carlisle Station, which has regular services to London, Glasgow Central, Manchester, Preston, Newcastle, Leeds, Edinburgh, Dumfries, Morpeth and Barrow-in-Furness.

Race numbers can be collected when registering. Registration will be over several days in the week of the race including race morning. More information will be released closer to the event.
Age Requirements
Threat Cumbrian Run, minimum age 17 years old
The Great Cumbrian 10K, minimum age 15 years old
Participants in Family Fun Run 2 must be aged between 11 and 16 years old.

Spectator Info
Bitts Park is a great place for spectators they will be able to watch the start and again as runners return from the city centre between 2.8m and 3.3m. The City Centre is also a great spectator area where the runners will do a loop around the city centre passing the Cenotaph, Cathedral, Castle down West Walls and back through the City centre.
