About
The Battle of the Brampton Valley Way is a 28 mile race on the traffic-free Brampton Valley Way. The flat out and back route has a constantly changing feel as it cuts through the heart of rural Northamptonshire, including through the tunnels at Oxendon and Kelmarsh. Entrants can choose which end of the Brampton Valley Way they wish to start from - Northampton or Market Harborough. This becomes the 'battle' - which runners will perform the best... Leicestershire or Northamptonshire?

Route information
The Brampton Valley Way is a traffic free, super flat route with a constantly changing feel that cuts through the heart of rural Northamptonshire. At 28 miles or 45km, the distance is a little over a marathon thus officially making it an ultra run. The terrain and distance however, make it a good stepping stone for people considering looking at longer distances in the future.
You have the choice from which end you wish to start - either Market Harborough/Leicestershire or Northampton/Northamptonshire. This is the end you will be representing in the battle! There will be a timing mat at both ends so you'll get a halfway split time, with the course being an out and back.

A really enjoyable event. Great pre-event communication with a superbly organised run. A good, relatively flat course with beautiful scenery and interesting tunnels to navigate. Marshals and aid stations were very motivating and friendly. Superb medal, results and photographs just added to the overall experience which I will definitely be doing again in 2024 and thoroughly recommend to anyone considering a 28 mile ultra 😊

Great race director, small number of participants making it a very friendly atmosphere, much of it under the shade which for when it was a hot day was good, easy route to follow, GREAT value too! Thoroughly recommend

Excellent event, brilliantly run. Pre race information was very good. Volunteers were superb. Only minor point werethe stations and lack of cups. Acknowledge it was mandatory to bring a plastic cup but when only using a running vest this was tricky and slowed down the time.

Great support, friendly Marshall’s and the organisers were encouraging. Nice course, better than I thought. Could have done with a few more food for vegetarians on some of the check points. Water melon was wonderful.

28 miles it said and 28 miles it was. Unique in as far as you pass through two disused rail tunnels so you definitely need a torch as mandated by the race brief. Although one straight line, it isn't flat, there's still reasonable elevation to break it up. You run past a heritage rail line and station and there was a steam locomotive on the day of the race. Choo! Choo! Hot day this year (2023) but some shade can be found in the more tree canopied sections, and of course, the tunnels which is a super cooling effect. Also unique in that you start in Northants OR Leics on a 14 mile out and back. This means you see the other runners twice - on the way, and on the way back. Not much in the way of spectators but some good encouragement from walkers and cyclists 'in the know'. Very easy registration and relaxed start - lovely medal too. Don't forget your sun screen for this one!
