Route information
The Big Pilgrimage follows a newly discovered Pilgrim Trail called 'The Old Way'. The point to point trail takes you from Southampton to Canterbury and was recently discovered on Britain's oldest road map, the Gough Map c.1360.
The run starts from Mayflower Park in Southampton, where the Pilgrim Fathers departed to America from the Mayflower. Runners will enjoy stunning countryside and coastal trails throughout.
The Solent Way will take runners across the Itchen Bridge, before following the shoreline to Hamble, where you will take a specially scheduled ferry across to Warash. The beautiful and varied trails will then head through Hill Head Harbour and Titchfield. The 15 mile race will finish at the oldest Church in Hampshire, St Peter's Church in Titchfield.
As the Marathon runners continue on through Wickham, Portsdown Hill will provide a challenge but they will be rewarded with stunning views out onto the English Channel. The Marathon finishes at the historic Fort Nelson atop Portsdown Hill.
Runners will collect stickers at famous pilgrimage landmarks on the route, such as Netley Castle and Titchfield Abbey. These stickers will create a collectable race number to remember.
