I'm new to Triathalon, where should I start?
If you’re a complete beginner to the sport we recommend that you choose a novice event or GO TRI for your first time. These are typically made up of a 200m - 400m pool swim, followed by a 10km bike and finished with a 3km run. If you have never swum in open water it is advisable to take part in swimming pool events first before you attempt an open water swim.
Your Regional Development Manager will be able to give you advice on the most suitable event for your first triathlon, along with advice on local clubs and training.
How do I know that an event is safe?
All permitted events listed on the British Triathlon and Home Nation Associations websites have committed to carrying out safety assessments of their events, which they are required to submit to British Triathlon along with proof that the event is covered by adequate insurance.
Am I eligible for British Championships events?
All members of the three Home Nation Associations are eligible to contest for British Championship medals, however these races have limited entry fields as defined by the Event Organiser. You are not guaranteed an entry for these events.
You will also be eligible to compete for Home Nation Associations championship medals in the your relevant Home Nation Association Championships, details of these can be found on the Triathlon England, Triathlon Scotland and Welsh Triathlon pages.
Full eligibility criteria can be found in Section 24 of the British Triathlon Competition Rules.
How do I know if an event is suitable for disabled triathletes?
Events that are suitable for paratriathletes indicate in the race details whether they are accessible for all.
If you have any queries about a specific event, contact the Event Organiser via the event calendar.
Where can I find results from a race I competed in?
Event Organisers are encouraged to submit their race returns to British Triathlon who then upload them to the Triconnect membership area. Once results have been uploaded you can then claim your time and add it to your profile as a record of your achievements.
If an Event Organiser has not submitted their results, please visit their website.
I have a complaint or concern about a race I competed in.What should I do?
If you have taken part in an event which you have concerns about in relation to an aspect of its organisation or the conduct of the organisers, you can contact British Triathlon directly for support and advice. If the event is permitted with the Home Nation Associations then we are able to work with the organiser to resolve the matter. All reports, complaints and concerns reported to British Triathlon are treated in a confidential manner.
However, if you have taken part in a non-permitted event we are unable to help you with your complaint.
