Can you take on The Gurkha Doko Challenge?

Have you got what it takes to match the bravest of the brave?

Based on the traditional Gurkha Recruitment Doko race, this challenge sees a 5km run carrying a traditional Doko basket weighing either 5kg, 10kg or 15kg with a time to beat of 46 minutes- are you up for it?


The fundraising target for The Gurkha Doko Challenge is 150 per person.

We’ll work out your time based on past results, elevation and terrain.

• Race Pack - collected at registration on the morning of the challenge

• Doko basket for the race with your chosen weight fitted properly by Gurkha soldier

• A fully signposted, cross country course with Gurkha soldiers marshalling the route and cheering you on throughout

Course Details

Raceday Logistics
Key timings:

9.00am: Registration desk and bag drop facilities open
9.30am: Start area open for Doko fitting
9.40am: Welcome address
9.45am: Warm up
10.00am: First wave starts
11.30am: Curry station opens and last wave starts
2.00pm: Curry station closes
3.00pm: Site closes

Will there be refreshments available around the course?
No, water will be available to participants at the finish line. Please come to the race hydrated and bring any drinks or foods you will need for pre, during and post-challenge.

What happens if I don’t make the 46 minute Doko Challenge finish time?
Don’t worry! You can finish the challenge in your own time.

Is there parking available on site?
Yes, there is free parking available on the event site. Look out for the road signs on arrival!
Kit List
• Comfortable running shoes

• Either running shorts or jogging bottoms

• Waterproof Jacket (just in case)

• Layers to keep warm before and after the race

• Water bottle

• Sunscreen/sunglasses

The event will take place in any weather. If extreme weather conditions are forecast, the situation will be reviewed and participants will be informed 48 hours before the event, this is Britain! Please check the forecast and come ready in appropriate clothing to keep warm/stay cool.
Spectators are welcome to come and cheer on family and friends throughout the event

The Gurkha Doko Race exists to support our work in Nepal and the UK, enabling Gurkha veterans, their families and communities to live their lives in dignity.

Is there an age limit for taking part?

All entrants must be 18 years plus on the day of the event to be able to take part.

I am a wheelchair user or have specific access requirements, can I take part?

Unfortunately, due to the arduous terrain, the Gurkha Doko Challenge is not suitable for wheelchair participants.

What will my race pack contain?

Running number and a timing chip. Race information will be sent via email and downloadable from the event website 4 weeks prior to the event.

When will I receive my official time?

At the end of the race, you will be able to check your race time immediately and all finish times can be checked online after the event.

Is there a baggage drop facility?

Yes, there will be a baggage drop tent available for participants if necessary. Although the baggage area will be manned throughout the day, the event staff cannot take any responsibility for your belongings. Please bring minimal kit to the site.
