The word had it that this was a hard course. The actual elevation gain is not so bad if you live in most of Yorkshire; it's the gradients that get you. One of the drops is about 1 in 6 or 7.A quick look at the route map tells you that the mix might lead to some ugly bits, and it does - two crossings of the M62 will do that, but this is far from the only race route with a touch of 'post-industrial malaise'.On the other side you had farms (and farm smells), cricket grounds and rugby pitches, mill towns and mill buildings, dry stone walls and twisting, winding climbs.Open roads worried some runners - a fast road had to be crossed, and the double decker busses got a bit close perhaps. doesn't bother me, mind.… read more

As this was my first half marathon I went in a bit blind I should have trained a bit more , it was well organised and plenty of water and sweet staitions around the course its quite a hilly course but living locally I already new this so its pretty tough for a first half my only criticism is it wouldve been nice to get a medal at the end.

Though this is one of the hardest half marathons in the country it's on my doorstep and I love it ,I must do as I've done it about 10times +over the years this year we had ideal weather, last year we had everything thrown at us ,it's always a good start with the first Mile down hill then climbing 2, levels out for a bit then a steep downhill to balif bridge flat for 1.5 then hit jay house lane which is a pig of a hill levels off again then at mile 9you get highmoor lane for 1m that's it hills over with last 3m is relatively easy . I love this race it's well organised and friendly.Hope this helps.

The course is well known for being quote hilly will long climbs and descents. I actually think this made it fun and more interesting. It's important to pace yourself I'm any race but especially this one due to the geography or the course. It would have been nice to have a medal and T-shirt for completing.

A regular at this race. Not an easy course but lovely route & well organised. Friendly marshals. A lot slower than previous years as coming back from injury but I will be back next year.

Its hilly, be prepared for a slog!!! Its high so weather can change quickly and can be unpredicatable. Bring a gel in case the hills get the better of you!

Generally a nice course. I would advise to check out the elevation. I found the first half of the race quite fast. A tricky hill at mile 7ish and again a long hill at mile 10ish. A few water stations and the like. Give it a go, it's a gem for WY runners!

Really friendly event. Very easy to access and everything necessary was there - parking, toilets, coffee! Beautiful course with plenty of challenges and a couple of easier sections too. I will definitely do this again.

Was a little too crowded at race headquarters but the organisation made up for it. The rucksack instead of a t shirt was a nice difference.

I had been ill during the week so I took it steady and couldn't race it like I wanted. Despite this, I thought it was a really well organised, if rather tough, event

Well organised run, nice small entry size with fabulous marshalls who are well placed at crossings, turns and provide lots of encouragement. Nice hilly course with beautiful countryside. This year's weather was much kinder which made it far nicer and this year's goodie bag was much better especially given the cheap entry price. This is definitely on my annual event calendar. I only gave 4 for support because if you are used to the larger events then it isn't as lively at the start and finish but I prefer it quieter and the support going around is great. Wear layers and keep pushing on the hills.

It's difficult to know what to wear when the weather is so hit and miss but I wonder how many people who aren't local aren't aware of hour exposed it is at times to the elements.

Excellent organisation. Car parks were well signposted and marshalled - and knew there was a walk up to the church. Registration ran smoothly - although placing numbers on a large sheet of paper on the wall before collecting race numbers seemed a long way round of doing things. Cakes, cakes and more cakes - fantastic stalls and audio equipment around registration and the start/finish line.

Logistics and schedule

Parking
Unfortunately, parking is quite restricted throughout the village and although car parks are
available for competitors we would ask you to car share where possible.
Three car parks are available at various places around the village and are all signposted; with
none more than ½ mile from the start/finish area.  Marshals will be on hand to direct traffic
to the car parks from all routes into the village centre, and will be available to assist you
with any problems.

Please note that there is very limited on‐street parking and the Police have been known to
issue fixed penalty tickets, or even remove vehicles parked in contravention of parking
restrictions, or causing an obstruction.   We apologise for, but can do nothing about, this
situation.
Finally, please be aware that our marshals are needed elsewhere for the start and
throughout the duration of the race, therefore the car parks will not be staffed after
10.45am.
