Route information
This event was quickly nicknamed 'The Beast' and labelled the toughest event in the Maverick calendar because of the vertical ascent of over 2065m on the Ultra route.
The Exmoor National Park in the South-West of England is known for its moorland and dramatic coastline with all 4 routes have the very best the area has to offer.
While this event is not for the faint-hearted, trail runners of all abilities will be able to complete one of the distances on offer if they commit to the challenge.
The routes follow part of the South West Coast Path which is England's longest way-marked footpath and a National Trail. You'll enter the valley of rocks, a superb coastal path known for its herds of feral goats, and back inland towards some special forested sections.
The Ultra route is 57k with 2124m of elevation.
The Long route is 42km with 1458m of elevation.
The Middle route is 20k with 722m of elevation.
The Short route is 15k with 519m of elevation.
*There will be aid stations along each route.

The course, organisation and support along the route was incredible. Would highly recommend. The only part that disappointed me was the stalls had started packing up and leaving before the cut off time. Therefore, there wasn’t much support or as much of an atmosphere at the end of the race which isn’t what you want when finishing an ultra marathon. I didn’t get to explore the merchandise or buy myself a nice hoodie or anything to remember the day by once the race had finished because they’d packed up and left. Everything else was fantastic.

Loved the event. Only recommendation would be to have salty savoury options at all aid stations. They were only available at 1 of 3 stations on the long route.

One of the two food vans at the end was cash only - this was a shame as their food looked great and was only one selling proper cooked food. I imagine few (including myself) people carry much cash to such an event and it meant it was not possible to buy from them (they also seemed to be missing out on a lot of business due to this). Overall an excellent event thank you :)

Loved the route, amazing location, pitstops were great (though I missed the 3rd one on the long route as the sign was different to the rest), great atmosphere and great range of facilities etc. at the start/finish. Other than missing the pitstop the only thing I would say is that the start could have done with being staggered to avoid bottlenecks early on in the race. Would definitely recommend and keen to do it again

Totally flawless event organisation, perfect trail course, very runnable, stocking on aid stations is to dream of from gels, fruits, sweets, savoury, potatoes etc. Atmosphere was amazing in the race quarters and people were super friendly. Last nut not least course marking was 10 out of 10. Couldn't recommend more

This was my first time running a Maverick event and I had great fun; through all the challenging ups and down that I hadn't really clocked before actually running around the course. It was beautiful. Views from from bottom and the top were wonderful, and the little things such as the wild garlic smell in the woods, and the fresh sea air at Lynton. The toughest run I've eve done, so be prepared for a lung busting, leg burning, mind bashing time. That said, I'll be back next year. Just you wait!

Needed to have a wave of starts, as there was a big stoppage very very early into the race as everyone had to filter through a gate.
