Route information
This event was quickly nicknamed 'The Beast' and labelled the toughest event in the Maverick calendar because of the vertical ascent of over 2065m on the Ultra route.
The Exmoor National Park in the South-West of England is known for its moorland and dramatic coastline with all 4 routes have the very best the area has to offer.
While this event is not for the faint-hearted, trail runners of all abilities will be able to complete one of the distances on offer if they commit to the challenge.
The routes follow part of the South West Coast Path which is England's longest way-marked footpath and a National Trail. You'll enter the valley of rocks, a superb coastal path known for its herds of feral goats, and back inland towards some special forested sections.
The Ultra route is 57k with 2124m of elevation.
The Long route is 42km with 1458m of elevation.
The Middle route is 20k with 722m of elevation.
The Short route is 15k with 519m of elevation.
*There will be aid stations along each route.

First time doing a maverick race and it was brilliant, location was perfect with great campsite. Race route was brilliant and the organisation of the event was top class. Will most definitely. Be doing more maverick races in the future.

I love the atmosphere at these races. The event stalls are relaxed and in keeping with the event. Everyone talks to everyone and it’s a really supportive and welcoming crowd of like minded people. I’ve recommended these events to loads of people already!

The toughest marathon that I’ve ever done by quite some distance. The only downside was that there were technical issues with setting up the trackers, so not everyone was able to get one (I didn’t get a tracker)

Apart from a glitch with the GPS registering, which owed to the location, the event was delightful. The course, however, was grueling, which is exactly what I was hoping for.

Incredible route across Exmoor, perfectly prepared and executed by the team at Maverick Race who always deliver exceptional races that are challenging, welcoming and inclusive. It was a tough day, make no mistake but the support and encouragement every step of the way was fantastic. Loved it!

Really well organised. Great feed stations. The team were really helpful in amending my entry from medium to long in conjunction with my husband being injured and not able to use his ultra place.
