Route information
Full Iron Distance
Swim 2.4 miles – cut off time 2HRS 20 after race start. 2 laps in the breath-taking serenity of the famous Kielder Water, entry and exit via slipway. Wetsuits are mandatory.
Bike 112 miles – cut off time 10HRS 30 after race start. 2 laps through the stunning valley and a ride over the Border to conquer the challenging, inspiring roads. The majority of the route will be on open roads however there will be some partial closures for safety, the route will be fully marshalled including Moto marshals. Non-drafting, bikes must comply with British Triathlon rules.
Run 26.2 miles – cut off time 17HRS 45 after race start. 4 laps of Bull Crag covering the infamous Forest trails that host the testing Kielder Marathon. Cut off time to start the run leg is 10 hours 30 minutes after race start.
Transition area will be in the large lower car-park at Waterside
Half Iron Distance
Swim 1.2 miles 1 lap in the breath-taking serenity of the famous Kielder Water, entry and exit via slipway. Wetsuits are mandatory.
Bike 56 miles 1 lap through the stunning valley and a ride over the Border to conquer the challenging, inspiring roads. There will be a number of event car parks within a mile of the event site. If arriving for registration on Saturday you can park at Kielder Waterside while registering. On event day please use event car parks only, Waterside will not be accessible by car.

Age Requirements
All participants must be:
- 18+ for the Individual Full Distance
- 17+ for the Individual Half Distance
- 17+ for the Team Full Distance
- 16+ for the Team Half Distance
Race Packs
Your race number, timing chip & race information pack will available to collect at registration. Race guides will also be available for download on the website and sent on email prior to the event.
Registration
ALL participants must attend a registration - you are recommended to do this on the Saturday, the day before the race. Transition will also be open to rack bike with security in place over night. Registration will then be open from 04:30am on Sunday 1st July, and the transition will close at 05:45am. Please ensure you have racked your bike before then.
Aid Stations
There will be aid stations located on the course that will be stocked with energy supplements, isotonic drinks and water.
FAQs
What type of bike must I use at The Northumbrian?
You are recommended to use a road bike as the entire route is on tarmac roads, however hybrid / mountain / TT bikes are allowed.
Are disk wheels allowed at The Northumbrian?
Yes. However, race organisers reserve the right to restrict use depending on conditions.
Are wetsuits allowed at The Northumbrian?
Wetsuits are compulsory below 14 degrees C- optional between 14 – 22 and no wetsuits from 22+
Can I wear headphones at The Northumbrian?
Aftershokz or other bone conduction headphones are permitted on the RUN course only – no in-ear headphones are allowed.
How will the transition zone work at The Northumbrian?
The organiser will be operating a standard triathlon transition zone with enough space for you to lay out all of your kit.
