The race starts and ends at the Millennium Hall in Horton cum Studley (OX33 1AE), with the course being mostly flat apart from a 130 foot climb up to the village of Beckley at about the 11-mile point. The course has distance markers and water points with enthusiastic supporters to cheer the runners on. Course records show the competitiveness of the event - the current men's record stands at 1:12:08, while the ladies' record is 1:26:00. There are trophies to be won in the main categories, and every runner finishing is awarded a commemorative medal. Runners are encouraged to form teams of four, which can be male, female or mixed, to win team prizes in addition to individual awards.

The Otmoor Challenge route

The half-marathon route consists of 6 miles of quiet country roads and just over 7 miles of off-road sections including stiles, fields, footpaths and bridleways, and one demanding hill at the 10 mile point at Beckley. The route circumnavigates Otmoor, a large RSPB conservation area, via 7 villages – historically described as “The Seven Towns of Otmoor”.
The course is well marked with direction signs throughout.

Event Details

Water Stations
At intervals around the course are 4 checkpoints providing water, first aid and communications back to the control centre at the start.

First Aid
Mobile, well-equipped first aiders patrol the course, and a fully equipped paramedic with vehicle is also available on course. In case of injury between checkpoints, a “Last Runner Marshal” on a bicycle sweeps behind the runners.

Runners and walkers should note that the road sections, although not busy, are not closed to vehicular traffic during the event, and they must follow the rules of the road and take due care. Course marshals provide direction at entrances and exits from roads. There are signs warning motorists of the event and an escort vehicle leads the way on roads.
