Route information
For those looking for a challenge, this endurance triathlon is ready to test your physical abilities. The course starts on the beautiful Abersoch Beach with a 1.5k swim in the sheltered waters of the bay, which loops back to the start point.
The next phase of the race is a 50k cycle from Abersoch into the Snowdonia National Park. The route takes participants through the stunning seaside towns of Pwllheli and Criccieth, before heading inland towards Prenteg hamlet, where you'll start your ascent into the Snowdon Massif. This cycling section is a mixture of long, fast stretches and more challenging technical sections.
The running portion of the Roc Wales is comprised of 12k on foot. Runners will follow The Watkin Path, one of the six main routes to the summit of Yr Wyddfa, the highest mountain in Wales. The first section is an 6k run up to the summit, with an elevation of 3,330ft and steep ascent at for the final kilometre. Runners have to reach the 4k checkpoint up Snowdon before 12pm to be able to continue their race. After reaching the peak, the second leg of the course involves a fast run back down the trail.
After their run, entrants will tackle a 50k return bike back to Abersoch, absorbing the stunning scenery as you cycle along open roads through the Welsh countryside. The event culminates with a final beach run of 1k, allowing runners to soak in the atmosphere before they cross the finish line.
