The Tissington Trail Half Marathon Weekend routes

THE COURSE

This is a rare opportunity to run a half marathon in Derbyshire without hills! The race is a point-to-point race from Parsley Hay to Ashbourne along the traffic-free Tissington Trail. Coach transport will take you from the Race HQ in Ashbourne to the Race Start in Parsley, you then run back along the trail to reach the finish! The route is slightly downhill virtually all the way, so it's a great course for runners of all abilities and a fantastic introduction to the half marathon distance for runners of all abilities.

Although the route is traffic-free, the trail will still be open to other trail users, including cyclists, walkers and horse-riders.

FIRST AID

Private medical services will be in attendance on the day and the course will be marshalled to provide assistance. Please note that due to the nature of the trail, it is not possible to provide contiuous supervision all along the course. Should you become unwell, you will be advised to alert a marshal, who will then arrange assistance for you. There will also be a sweep marshal following the race to ensure that nobody is left behind and that all runners are accounted for.

Nice Work are ranked #5 in the UK out of 505 organizers

The Tissington Trail Half Marathon has established itself as a real favourite with runners, often selling out months in advance, and we hold this race on two dates across one weekend to accommodate as many runners as possible. We're proud that the race regularly features in the Runner's World top 10 UK trail races.

The Tissington Trail, the site of a former railway line from Ashbourne to Buxton, runs along a 13 mile route from Parsley Hay to Ashbourne in Derbyshire. Surrounded by beautiful countryside the traffic-free trail is ideal for a cracking half marathon and, because the route is slightly downhill all the way, you've got gravity on your side!

My first local half marathon, well organised, a lovely flat if not downhill route, encouragement from the volunteers at the aid station. Be prepared.for the final cheeky incline at the end.

This is a fabulous event, really well organised from the bus pick ups to the medal giving out. Course is so pretty and trails are in good condition with plenty of water and cheering crowds where the terrain allowed. The course is a gentle downhill so a really good chance of a PB but to be honest I was just there for the scenery and buddied up with a couple of first time halfers and we ran together over the line.

Fantastic race with huge PB potential.. I have now completed it 4 times and it gets better each year. The bus journey is organised with military precision. The staged start prevents any hold ups as everyone finds their pace when setting off.
The water stations en route are just in the places.
Do the race - you won’t be disappointed.

We love this race, came across it by chance when in the area walking.
We went on the waiting list and secular place. Will be running for the third time this year. It’s well organised, the scenery is beautiful and we now stay in the area and have a well deserved beer in the evening. 🍻

What can I say...Superbly well organised and buses to the start(so can leave car in carpark). The route is gorgeous so keep looking around you, magic! Atmosphere a little low at start, as it was cold and drizzling, but as sun came out everyone's face lit up. Would I recommend it...ABSOLUTELY!!😁😁 Didn't run it last year as injured, so my place was given to someone on the waiting list and my place was deferred. Bonus😁

This was my first and so far only half marathon. It was a great choice for a first timer, mostly gentle downhill or flat on good trail surfaces, great views and brilliant cafe in Ashbourne. Another key point for me was the availability of loos along the route. I just needed the security of knowing they were there. The train shaped medal is my top trophy and much admired by the grandkids. I still wear my T shirt with pride and hope I can get a place to repeat the experience. If I do that I would start a bit further up the pack so that I saw other runners for longer There’s plenty of room for overtaking and it can feel lonely on your first half although the volunteers cheered me on to my 2hrs 36 mins finish. Not bad for a first timer aged 63.

I have done this race several times and really enjoy it. The organisation is always like clockwork and it has a really friendly, enjoyable atmosphere in beautiful surroundings, whatever the Derbyshire weather throws at you! Would definitely recommend it, a good one for a PB too as it is downhill.
