What is a Tiger Beetle?
Tiger Beetles are insects found in many areas of Europe, but in the UK it can only be found in coastal sites in Lancashire and Cumbria. Look out for these attractive insects, which are mainly dark red on their body, but with a greenish sheen and yellow/white stripes on the wing cases. They can be recognised by their long legs, large eyes, and long curved mandibles.
Loved this event last year. Such a different route than I was used to running but fantastic organisation and Marshalls. Fab buffet on the way round too!

This was only my 2nd 10K and it's made me want to do more! The event organisers and helpers were all so friendly and helpful and the course itself was absolutely brilliant and even though it pushed me to the limit, I'm already looking forward to next year. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying this part of the coast and an inspired idea to hold the event here, as the extra footfall can only help remobilise the dune habitat and help maintain the bare sand that the Northern Dune Tiger Beetle depends on. That brings me on to the medals and T-shirts - both inspired and what great way to raise awareness of the Tiger Beetle. My time, as a beginner, wasn't outstanding, but it was a PB and it was really lovely to get the positive comments from the organisers at the finish line. I've never seen so many totally exhausted people looking so happy - well done!

From online entry to publishing of results, this was a very well run event. The course was interesting and challenging on varied terrain. We had been pre-warned that it was a long way from parking to registration / start, so we were prepared and got to Formby early. The medal was great quality and distinctive.
