Route information
Two lap course. The course will be closed to traffic during the race, but please be alert as to what’s going on around and behind you at all times in case of an emergency. Most runners will be lapped by the lead runners – overtaking from behind. The course is not suitable for wheelchairs. Mile markers will be in position. There will be 6 water stations supplying bottled water, including one at the finish. Along the route there also are several public toilets at various points. The course will be dismantled after 3 hours.
What's included
On the final return to Paignton Green keep left past the Pier to the finish line, you will then receive your Goody Bag with raceT-Shirt and medal.

Prizes - Our extensive prize list is worth over £3,000, the number and value of the individual prizes is the same for men and women. The first 3 men and first 3 women will win cash bonuses £450, £250, £100 in addition to any category prizes.
Category prizes in the form of vouchers will go to the first runner in the following groups :- 17-19 yrs, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34,35-39,40-44,45-49,50-54,55-59, 60-64 65+
NB - prizes will be awarded according to finishing positions rather than chip times. Under UKA rules.
The presentations to the first three men and women will take at 11:30 am.

  • Torquay Drop-off and pick up points: The Strand, Torquay Harbourside & Coach Station: Lymington Road. TQ1 4BD.
  • Paignton Drop-off and pick up points: Rear of Victoria Coach Park. TQ4 6AU.
By Bus
Paignton bus station is approximately 500 meters away from race start. Please check Stagecoach website for bus time tables (Note from 8:30 onwards road closures will be in place. Buses will follow diversion routes therefore may not be on time.)
Event day logistics
The start will be on the Eastern Esplanade at the Pier, please line up from 8:45am in accordance with your estimated finishing time. Please be honest with yourself when estimating your finishing time - if you line up too far forward, you will get in the way of those who have been more realistic, particularly during the first few miles. The race will start promptly at 9:00am.
Timing chip - Your timing chip is built into your race number and is disposable; your number must be attached in accordance with the issued instructions. There will be no other timing system on the day.
Race number - Please insert the requested information on the reverse of your race number, which must then be pinned securely to the front of your vest. You must not cut, fold or otherwise mutilate your race number in any way. Your race number must not be transferred to another runner unless the correct procedure has been followed (see Enter Event). You will not be permitted to finish without an official race number.
Facilities – There will be Baggage and Changing tents, a Hunters Brewery refreshment area. A massage team from South Devon College will also be on hand to treat you after the race. Toilet facilities will be available at one locations on the seafront, but regret that there are no showers so how about a nice dip in the sea to revive you?
Baggage – In advance please use a thick black pen to write your race number on both sides of the tag sent to you then attach it firmly to your bag. You must present your race number to reclaim your bag afterwards. This facility will be staffed throughout the event, but please be aware that we store your belongings entirely at your own risk, so please don’t leave any valuables.

Did the race in 2019
Since I last completed the race the local council have reduced the numbers of public toilets and made them 30p to enter. The organisers saw the sense to provide portaloos but there were nowhere near enough. This race also suffers from the problem of having barriers along the start/finish line meaning it's difficult to get into the starting pen. 5 stars for everything else as it is a brilliant half marathon. I prefer the courses when you pass back on the other runners as I can wave to my clubmates.

Some positives first: the seafront course is largely pleasant and the hill between Paignton and Torquay adds a nice challenge to the route. The marshals were friendly and supportive. There was adequate water available on the course. Nice medal and a good quality t-shirt.Now the negatives: I know it isn't something the race has any control over but the car park we are advised to use is horrendous! The smell of urine was overpowering and not a nice welcome to Torbay! The start of the race was chaotic with no segregation of starters according to pace / expected finish time. This made it very difficult to settle in to a comfortable pace; I was still weaving around slower runners whilst faster runners were trying to get past me almost a mile in to the race.

Lovely course, great organisation and the atmosphere was brilliant too. Every marshal was fabulous, so even though I’d said thank you to them all as I went past, THANK YOU again to all of the marshals!

Never seen so many marshals on a race which was brilliant. A few Pacers would be great but otherwise a superb race. Will be back next year

Absolutely fabulous event. It would be great if the kids race could start at such a time any parents running the half could do the fun run first. More toilets at the start would be great, although the queue moved fast. Some kind of expected start times in the pen would be great if no pacers.

More toilets and a water station at the big wheel is needed not keen on the 2 laps but knew what I was signing up for other then that good course. Well marshalled and public was great cheering everyone on and handing out sweets.
