Route information
This race will take you through the picturesque countryside of Shere. You will navigate the beautiful Surrey Hills, exploring and searching for as many checkpoints as you can within the applicable time limit.
The long race is an adventure race, a combination of running and mountain biking. You will only be allowed to transition once and will have 4 hours to navigate to as many of the 30 checkpoints as possible.
The short race is also an adventure race, combining running and mountain biking. You must navigate to as many of the 20 checkpoints as possible in 2 hours and may only transition to the bike once in the whole race.
The trail race is completely on foot and you must navigate to 15 checkpoints in 2 hours.
The mini trail will be 1 hour long and you will have to navigate to 10 checkpoints.
Finally, the MTBO will be completely on a mountain bike, you will have 3 hours to get to as many of the 20 checkpoints as possible.

Age Requirements
- 16 years or older may individually enter
- 8 to 16-year-olds must be accompanied by a paying adult

Rules
- You may run on marked public footpaths, bridleways, and permissible tracks (green and black dashed lines)
- You may cycle on bridleways, rights of way, roads (not on footpaths)
- Close all gates behind you even if another competitor is behind you
- Be considerate of the local community at all time
- Dispose of all litter appropriately
- Keep your dogs under control
- Wear a certified bike helmet on the bike stage
- You must be within 10m of your bike at all times
- Bike must be dismounted as instructed at the transition
- You are only allowed to transition to bike once throughout the duration of the event
Scoring
- Checkpoints are valued at 10 points
Time Penalties
- You will lose one point off of your total points for every 30 seconds you are late to the finish line

Kit List
For all races, you are recommended to have:
- Your waterproof map (this is your most valuable possession in the race)
- A Compass for navigation
- First aid kit in case of emergency
- Phone or money
- Waterproof jacket (weather dependent)
- Hydration and nutrition (including energy gels)
- For bike stages, a certified bike helmet must be worn at all times
- Map board or some other means of carrying your map on the bike stage (you can buy this at registration for £9.00)
FAQ's
Where am I allowed to run and cycle in the Shere Adventure Race?
Runners are restricted to public footpaths, bridleways, and certain tracks. Cycling is restricted to bridleways, rights of way, and roads (no footpaths). These are all marked on your map.
What are the age requirements for the Shere Adventure Race?
For solo entry, entrants must be 16 years of age or older. Ages 8 - 15 may also participate but they must be accompanied by a full paying adult. The adult will have to sign a waiver form at registration on the day.
How does the scoring work for the Shere Adventure Race?
Each checkpoint is worth 10 points, each competitor must reach as many checkpoints as possible in the time limit. If you are late to the finish, you will be penalised 1 point for every 30 seconds that you are late.
