Age Requirements

In accordance with UKA rules, all runners must be aged 15 or older on the day of the event.

Elite Race

Complimentary entry for runners who have run sub 33 (male) and sub 36 (female) within the last 12 months. Email info@ukacgroup.org with proof of qualifying time for entry.

Childrens 1K Race

The Childrens 1K Race is open to all children age 4 to 15 and can be entered on the day. £5 entry including a medal for all finishers.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be attending this event again.The roads were not shut and became dangerous with cars whizzing past many runners. I almost missed the turning into the school, as I had stop to let a white van out of the turning. This event also advertised photos, but other than the start line no other photos were taken.I also didn't see a water station until 7k(ish).Sorry to be so negative as I know a lot of work does go into an event, but safety has to come first.

Sadly I did not have a great experience at Wem 10K. Both the first and last kilometres involved running round a playing field with wet and pretty long grass which was not pleasant to run on and reduced my expected pace. The rest of the route through suburbs and country lanes was fine. I enjoyed the cheers and waves from people in their gardens out in the country, but there were not many supporters in the town or at the finish. Despite chip timing, the results did not appear online until the end of the day, missing out age categories. More detailed results appeared by lunchtime the next day, but there were clear issues. For example, both my wife and I appear to have won our respective categories of F70 and M70, but we were both marked second, while the class “winners” were actually the slowest in the two age groups.

Not much signposting for registration, never found the toilets. Race description made it sound flatter than it was. Stewards were helpful, course well marked out and support was excellent

Good set up and course was good. Lack of atmosphere between miles 2 and 4.

In the main I liked and enjoyed the course. The start and finish (almost 2k in total) was a bit off putting as it was on grass but turned out not to be too bad. I ran Wem the first year it was put on and enjoyed this course much better than the first year. Beyond the race organisers responsibility but, the support from the people of Wem was a bit subdued and very different from Market Drayton which runs through the housing estates and the centre of town. Disappointingly, cars were going up Ellesmere road and were not going slowly and one particular lady (I use the term loosely) was speeding in her Audi TT. You need some strong willed Marshalls who don’t let cars through unless in exceptional circumstances but again I recognise it’s difficult. I wasn’t impressed with the medal. But overall I think it was a good race and would probably do it again.

Organisers were amazing, support was fantastic & course was brilliant except I hate running on grass! 🤣🤣 it was brilliant as always as all the events I do with them xx

As a first timer for the event, would have been good to be given a little bit more info regarding parking. Also a course map is always a bonus too. Other than those things, thanks for a great and well put together event, will be back again next year 😀
