Wey Ahead - Running in Woking

AAT Events

The waterside course takes the 5km walkers/runners to Byfleet.  
  
15km walkers and runners follow the river from Woking to Send.  
  
25km walkers and runners will start at Woking and finish by Mill Mead Lock in Guildford.  
  
32km walkers and runners start in Woking and follow the Basingstoke Canal to Byfleet before picking up the River Wey and following the towpath through Guildford and down to Godalming.  
Aid stations are available at 5km, 15km, 25km and at 32km.

I drove from a way away to do this run but wasn't disappointed, ran a pb but wouldn't have managed it without all the staff!

Lovely long run, the staff were really brilliant and professional and really made the experience for me

First time doing the full course and it was great, some things on the organisation front didnt seem to go to plan but that only added to the overall atmosphere!

My first ever 5k and I had a brilliant time, a great introduction to the world of running events    

First time I've ever gone over a half marathon distance but I loved it! The canal route was perfect and the photos too

1st time running event & absolutely loved the experience. Very well organised & great support throughout. Looking forward to my next AAT Event!

The event was fantastic with a great atmosphere. The staff were both friendly and professional. Highly recommended.

Incredible experience. Ran the 25k with a friend, organization was slightly haphazard but it made for a wonderful atmosphere and overall a super memorable race day. Would definitely recommend, and will try to run the full 32k course next year.

Great race,well organized, lot of fun. I really enjoyed the scenery. Looking forward to running again next year!

I ran so hard that I puked and passed out, but the race was a lot of fun up until that point! Would recommend!Running, that is. Not puking.

This was a great race, a little disorganized but fun anyway. Great for a long run! cant wait to do this again next year.

Wey Ahead was organised by AAT Events which means quality. Excellently organised with the most amazing scenery. I hope this is repeated next year so I can run it again. Great race with a great medal at the end.

First time doing the Wey Ahead. Ran the full 32k route. Good organisation with easy registration located a short distance from the start line.  Very scenic route following the Basingstoke Canal and River Wey all the way from Woking down to Godalming.  The route is flat but as to be expected from a trail run is rutted in place as the route crosses fields with plenty of sections on unprepared towpath which makes it quite hard going at times.  There is little support along the route and at times couldn’t see anyone way ahead or behind but the scenery made up for that. Overall and fun race and would do again. 

It a fantastic  event and well organized.  With free event photograph.  Cant wait to do it next year.. see you all runners

Great walk with lots of support at the pit stops. Notification of where toilets were available could have been useful (lady in pub not happy). 

Thank you we had a great day we walked the full 32Km and the routine was beautiful. My only suggestion to the organisers would be to let the runners start first as it must have been very frustrating for them to filter through the walkers on the first mile or so. :-)

Fun 5K with a nice crew of volunteers and a nice course right near the water. I'll be back again next year and tell my friends as well!

I was recommended AAT by a family member who's done some of their events, and they lived up to expectations! I did the 15K, which had a beautiful, well-marshaled course, plus lots of nice other runners to chat with afterwards!

A great event with beautiful, peaceful scenery. I loved that we could start in our own time as it took away pressure and the route was lovely, scenic and quiet. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and encouraging. I would definitely do this event again next year. 

This was my first run with aatevents. The volunteers were helpful and thankful. It was nice to be able to start at staggered times. Good to have a wrist band to time me as made the run more motivating to achieve. The 5k was less than 5k. When I reached the feed station to tap in my wrist band I had to ask where to tap this did not seem to be easily available. A sign to say 5k finishers would be useful. Starting the other side of the bridge would have been better it was difficult to cross road having to wait at crossing. I love the medal and pleased I was able to support 3 different mental health charities. Lovely course and not too busy with other members of public using towpath at that time of day. Will likely complete again but perhaps a further distance. 

We’ll organised, pretty straight forward. Friendly people, the events crew and participants! Beautiful route, really enjoyed that...See you next year... 32k perhaps 🤔

The event was well organised, with everything running like clockwork. Looking forward to next year!

It was Ok. It promised finishes near rail stations. The 15km ended nowhere near a railway station and the organisers couldn't answer any questions about this and ways to get home from the finish.it also promised loos at water stations, there weren't any at the 5km. Though we did find the pub at 15km.The medal wasn't great either. No year or distance included. It is big, if size impresses you.However, there were good points - the route is BEAUTIFUL! I liked the rolling start (for a slower runner, that is brilliant). The aid stations were well stocked and those marshalls were cheery and helpful.It's a shame there weren't more photographers along the route (I saw one and he wasn't taking pix at the time) because the scenery was beautiful and would've made for some really nice momentos to buy.

Very well organised and everyone was so friendly! I will definitely do this race again next year:-) 

Great race over a beautiful route. Well organised as always. The last leg to Godalming is longer than you think!! 

I have just competed the wey Ahead 25km run and I’d just like to comment on the well organised event. I ran the London marathon a few weeks back and decided to carry on my running this being my first event I have ever done but first event since. The staff were so helpful, friendly polite and welcoming. From collecting my number this morning not knowing the area travelling from Watford they directed me in all the right ways back to Woking to collect my car. It’s so lovely for random acts of kindness. 

Wey Ahead is a 5km, 15km, 25km or 32km walk or run alongside the Basingstoke Canal and River Wey in support of local mental health charities. The rural course features fantastic scenery along the river and canal which can be enjoyed as a pleasant summer afternoon walk or as a part of training for an Ultra Run.
