It is a great event for all beginners and someone who has been in triathlon world for a long time. The course is very nice and rolling around Winchester farmlands, with a run course around the block and on school grounds.Great atmosphere for a family to enjoy the day and see their loved once race

This was my first triathlon. I chose it as I heard it was a good first one to try. wrong! We were an hour delayed due to the Sprint group mis-judging their swimming times. There was nowhere warm to hang around except the hall and that was packed with people. We arrived in plenty of time to have a briefing and so for an extra hour to be added we were very tired by the time we actually got going in the Novice times. There were no signs for the loos, but we found 2 womens loos that were used by all the female and children spectators and the competitors. I notified the organisers that there was no toilet paper twice in 45mins before they filled it back up.You had to cross the transition lane for the swimmers to get to the loos which was chaotic at times. We should have been able to arrange between ourselves in the pool who was a strong swimmer in the lane and negotiate who went first. However the swim hats were allegedly linked to the chips on our ankles so we couldn't do that. The bike ride was awful for me on a mountain bike. all road and so many very very steep hills and some very narrow. Having to keep pulling over to let cars pass meant i lost focus, time and effort. There should be marshalls on the bike route. An ambulance seemed to do the route, but that caused more issues as it had to pull over where I was cycling to let a car pass! there was also a red fiesta full of teenagers and they squirted me full in the face with a water gun. I was so shocked and came off my bike. At first i wondered if it was acid that had been thrown in my face. One of the other cyclists was also caught just in front of me and heard me scream and came to check on me. That was awful. This should be a road bike or hybrid bike ride. Mountain bikes are too heavy for this kind of course.I came back to transition and found a woman collecting her friends bag etc she had picked mine up too. So that took time to get all my stuff back from her. Just because we were the last to do our race, the security in the transition area shouldn't have laxed. The run was only 2.5km but more hills. The narrow path up towards the college meant i couldn't pass anyone that was walking. Then as we rounded the final corner the young marshalls were playing football and we didn't know where to go. thankfully another one came along and directed us.No spectators for us. Everyone had gone home. We couldn't even get a cup of tea. we were so cold and hungry and we had been an hour delayed to start. Really marred the experience for me.

A great event, but started an hour late due to poor organisation of the swimming times. I was tired before even starting, due to spending an hour shivering and waiting around.Once underway, the event was great, volunteers were friendly and helpful, the signs and transition areas were clear and easy to navigate. The cycle route was good fun and I enjoyed the hills. Traffic was inevitable, so thanks for having volunteers making note of who stopped at the lights. The run route was great fun and exciting, however it would be good if there was a way to avoid cutting across the start of the cycle route when crossing the road. The finish line was great and the man with the microphone was full of encouragement and enthusiasm! Overall, I really enjoyed the event; it was my second triathlon ever and my first sprint distance tri. Huge thanks to everyone for making it happen, my family and I had a great time and will definitely do more events in the future.

Bike course had some very narrow sections on busier rural roads, particularly south of Sparsholt. A sign warning motorists that there was a race might have helped.

This is a great triathlon, everyone is very friendly and helpful. Fabulous atmosphere would do it again and recommend it. The only concern is no one checks you have the correct bike. My bike is old so not a problem. If I had an expensive bike I would be very concerned. But like I said great event.
