Windsor Half Marathon route

Windsor Great Park is one of the most beautiful settings for an event in the UK and the start and finish are located on the Long Walk, in the shadows of Windsor Castle.

The Course

  • The course itself is all on road and is quite challenging with plenty of hills spread around the route. The roads are closed to traffic so runners are free to enjoy the superb scenery.
  • The race takes place close to Windsor Castle in Windsor Great Park. The course is two laps, one of 4 miles, the other of about 7.5 miles with the remainder made up by the 1.5 mile Long Walk at the start and end of the race.

Please note that the section of the course that is marked as a dotted line is Crown Estate private property and is only open to us on race day so please do not attempt to train along it.

  • Did the Half Marathon in 2019

It's a great half marathon with great scenery. The course is undulating but nothing crazy steep and if you train accordingly a PB it is possible.
  • Did the Half Marathon in 2019

This was my 1st ever half marathon. The course was very tough. The only thing I think was needed was, maybe at the water stations, have either sugared drinks or sweets. Being a complete novice, I really had major problems straight after the race until I was given a sugary drink and sweets. My sugar level was so low.
  • Did the Half Marathon in 2019

Very challenging course, more hilly than what I expected. Definitely hill training is recommended. Great race friendly atmosphere. I was very happy as I got a PB! 😀
  • Did the Half Marathon in 2019

My 5th Windsor Half in a row. Never fails to send a shiver down my spine looking up the hill at the start, and never fails to feel amazing running back down long walk at the end. Awesome course, tough hills, but great crowds really do give you a lift. 100% recommended!
  • Did the Half Marathon in 2019

Tough undulating course. Great crowds at key junctions but more sparse in other sections. Needed more toilets at the camp as there were long queues for the mens cubicles.
  • Did the Half Marathon in 2019

good course scenic but quite a few hills no really a PB course. Wet day but support still good well apreciated
  • Did the Half Marathon in 2013

Really great race and other than the laps and the start was a little chaotic the year I did it (admittedly a long time ago it may well be better now!) it really would be a perfect race. It is such a privilege running through the great park and finishing down the long walk is epic with an awesome atmosphere and a great reception. On a sunny day there really is nowhere better. It really is pretty hilly in parts so be ready for that!!
