Route information
This 2-day adventure will see cyclists take on some legendary roads in the Yorkshire Dales. Alan Little, the founder of Cycle Britain has ridden this route more than 50 times and is a qualified British Cycling Leader and Triathlon Coach so it's fair to say you will be in safe hands! Riders will be fully supported throughout the weekend, with qualified coaches guiding you and giving you tips, baggage transfer, excellent food throughout the day and any medical and mechanical support you may require.
The cycling will take in some of Yorkshire's toughest climbs, and even some which have featured in the Tour de Yorkshire. The route will provide a stern challenge, but you will be well rewarded by the stunning scenery throughout. Riders will enjoy the quiet roads of the region, racing through tiny villages and dramatic landscapes.
Riders will kept in small groups between 8 and 12 riders to allow the organiser to cater for a range of abilities, and to ensure you have a enjoyable and memorable experience.
Day 1
Harrogate to Tan Hill Inn
79 miles
The group will quickly leave Harrogate, heading into the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Riders will enjoy the beautiful valley road, too wide for two cars, on their way out to the climb Pen-Y-Ghent (437 metres). The road will then head through Ribblesdale, known for its beautiful viaduct on the way to Dentdale, which boasts the highest train station in England. Just before the group reaches Kirkby Stephen, you will turn right up towards Tan Hill Inn and its stunning views for your overnight stay.
Day 2
Tan Hill Inn to Harrogate
84.9 miles
The long descent from Tan Hill Inn gives your legs a chance to warm up, as you head through the remote and beautiful villages of Stonesdale and Swaledale. The day will have a variety of small ascents and descents with some testing climbs mixed in. The biggest challenge of the day will come ascending Fleet Moss, a tough climb which peaks out at 20%. However once you reach the top you will be rewarded for your efforts with 23 miles of gentle downhill all the way to Appletreewick. From here there will be one final climb up Greenhow Hill before heading back to Harrogate to complete your Yorkshire Dales ride!
