The Royal Marines Charity - Bootcamp Challenge

HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE PUT THROUGH YOUR PACES BY THE ROYAL MARINES?

The Royal Marines Charity - Bootcamp Challenge is an event totally based around the PRMC ( the Potential Royal Marines Course), the pre-joining fitness test for the Royal Marines. It's a great challenge if you are considering a career in the Corps, especially if you want a try at the PRMC without the pressure of Lympstone. It's a great way to guage your current fitness levels and also highlight areas that may require a little more attention. Whether you are doing this challenge for fun, for team building or as a heads up for the real deal, all money raised is going to the Royal Marines Charity and it is being manned BY Royal Marines FOR Royal Marines.

I did it on my own for help for the heroes charity and I wasn’t on my own at all, as everyone’s is so friendly, helpful and supportive towards each other making everyone complete the course. Overall good obstacle course and would recommend just know your going to get bruises, cuts and muddy but be extremely happy. but it shows that you’ve done something not everyone would do.

North West mudder never fails to disappoint in both levels of mud and obstacles.

With a fairly adaptable course capability you get a nice mix of mud and water obstacles, with a few pretty decent new ones this year.

Few changes to camping I found - no longer allowed alcohol on the camp site which is a bit of a ball ache if you’re wanting to chill with a few beers at the end of the day.

The course itself is very manageable with very few hills/inclines which makes it ideal for a first mud run.

I was also pleased to hear that they’ve continued “MiniMudder” at this venue, which is great as they’d stopped it at Yorkshire.

As per, well organised and I yet again enjoyed volunteering for this great event.

Possibly one of the ultimate challenges is to complete a Tough Mudder.TM North West is set in the beautiful grounds of Cholmondeley Castle in rural South Cheshire. The course is challenging - obviously with the obstacles throughout the course - but also with hills and wooded areas that really take it out of you with uneven trails and natural cover that blocks out the sun (if there is any).Support can be sparse at times but there are spectators, although I find that they are normally waiting for someone they know to pass so there isn't that much encouragement for all participants. The volunteers out on the course do however provide a huge amount of support, they are mostly made up of people who have taken part in TM events so know exactly what you are going through. The obstacles are some of the best you can get on the OCR circuit and there is a good mix of water and climbing obstacles.Legionnaires (participants who have completed 1 or more TM events) are rewarded with some alternative obstacles which push you just that little bit further and provide motivation to take part in future events. The pre/post TM facilities are okay - decent food vendors, merch stalls and sponsor stalls are in the TM village. The finishers haul is pretty decent as well - drinks (water, energy & alcoholic), tshirt, energy food and the all important headband! Discounted entry for the next years event is also on offer on completion of a survey post event.

What you need to know about Obstacle Races

Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) involves a competitor travelling on foot overcoming various physical challenges or obstacles. The most common form of these are a combination of mud and trail runs, and the big players in the space are Tough Mudder, Spartan Race & Born Survivor.

Different obstacle event types

The obstacles used are often similar to those used in military training and tend to include climbing over walls, carrying heavy objects, traversing bodies of water, crawling under barbed wire and jumping through fire. They’re epic when done with friends, and these events are big on the social side so get a team together, get the war paint on and get ready for big celebrations and post-race beers.

Find the right obstacle race for you

These obstacle races are happening all over the world, with varying style and difficulty, so it’s time to jump on that bandwagon! Here are some of our most popular events, if you haven’t done one before, you absolutely must.
