It was my first ever race. Loved it! Only thing Id recommend is a healthier food range in the grandstands. It seemed the only food you could buy wasnt exactly sticking with the healthy running theme.

  • Did the event in 2018

Last year I completed the Liverpool Spring 10k, it was two laps round the glorious Sefton Park in the sun and I couldn’t wait to sign up again! This year the route had changed to incorporate the iconic cathedrals of Liverpool, starting at the Catholic Metropolitan cathedral and making its way past the Anglican Cathedral down into two parks of Liverpool. This included Princes Park and the larger Sefton Park. As soon as we entered Sefton Park the crowds were amazing. Lots of cheering and support, along with the usual drummers and musical acts. The last 6K went by so quickly as we looped around the lakes in the park and past the famous Palm House – a Dome-shaped Victorian palm house situated in the centre of the park.I strongly recommend this race, it is organised by couple Matt and Sam Davies and they put their heart and souls into ensuring the T-Shirts are amazing, and the medals are worth the run! This year the reward was a trophy style medal which stands up on your mantlepiece (or office desk!).The thing I really love about the event is that it forms part of a weekend where there is a timed 5K and a Kids 1K. The timed 5K is a wonderful chance for newer runners to push themselves and get a feel for an official race. The event is chip timed, there are bands around the route and finishers are rewarded with a lovely medal and training t-shirt. When 5Ks are labelled as “fun runs” the terminology can often take away from how much of an amazing feat 5K is for any runner so Matt and Sam stay away from this. Last year two of my friends did their first 5Ks at this event and it gave them a massive sense of achievement, one went on to do a half marathon the next year. To conclude a good time was had by all amazing route, great medals and t-shirts, fabulous weather and a well organised and enjoyable run!
  • Did the event in 2018

Easy registration process and race number arrived in plenty of time beforehandVery well organised set up pre race with more than enough toilets a very efficient baggage drop. Colour coded starter pens made for a very good startA new route means the run starts by the Catholic Cathedral and goes down Hope St and Princess Ave, both wide enough to easily accomodate the masses of runners. The final 6km enters familiar territory with a few loops within Sefton Park with the trees providing decent shade on a hot morning. A cheeky incline brings you onto a short finishing straightSupport was minimal in the residential areas but was much more evident in the Park with a couple of drumming bands and a packed finishing areaA well set out area after the finish line made water, t-shirt and medal collection very easy with both the shirt and medal being good quality. There was a massive field next to finish were runners could meet up, compare times, get burgers and ice cream and bag collection was easy. Free buses ferried runners back to the start area

Run Heaton was an undulating, multi-lap race which had 5k, 10k and Half Marathon options.
Parking, baggage and number collection were all effortless.
Half marathon distance consisted of a partial loop, followed by 3 full laps. Heaton Park is a beautiful setting for a race. Paths were good for running on, although the 2x significant hills on each lap, make it a nice challenge.
Water station was on each lap, so approximately every 3miles.
Marshals were absolutely brilliant, as were the small but enthusiastic support.
Finishers received a decent medal, flap jack, banana ect.
There was also a FREE post-race massage option and FREE photographs.
    In summary-
Well organised, well marshalled, friendly race and good value.
Free massage & photos was an unexpected bonus.
The course is quite challenging but not too bad.
I'd certainly do this race again.

This is a lovely little race run by a superb local running club, Knowsley Harriers, and is popular with the other Merseyside clubs. The course is up and down the Liverpool Loopline trail but it is not entirely closed so you do have to share the course with the odd cyclist or dog walker. It is run in a great spirit, super friendly & well marshalled. Was really looking dad to this but...I felt it was dangerous and was glad when it was over. I'm part of a cycling club and the riding I saw was shocking!
Would not do this again and wouldn't advise anyone else to do it.
  • Did the event in 2018

not really a race unless you want it to be and get there early. Its very relaxed family outing. Unique chance to ride through the tunnels round the wirral to chester and back.Plenty of options for different course lengths.
  • Did the event in 2018

It’s a real shame about this event as it could really could be so much better than it is. It departs and finishes with the fun of cycling in the Mersey tunnel ! a weird but really enjoyable part of the event. The actual start was a bit of a non-event. it was a case of just turn up and get going, no race briefing, no safety checks (i`ll get onto that in a minute) just a guy on a mic trying to get the riders motivated.Upon starting it was shocking to see how many participants were allowed to take part without a helmet, or on bikes in poor condition. We saw well over a dozen cyclists without helmets in our time on the route. Also no race numbers, or numbers in the incorrect place. This should have been picked up at the start. This isnt the organisers fault but there were also a number of cyclists running red lights, cycling way too close to others, dodging in and out of traffic, bullying their way through other cyclists. My wife after 10 miles was contemplating just calling it a day and heading back to the car.She had paid over £2,000 for her carbon pride and joy and was worried that inconsiderate cyclists were putting her in danger (which they were)We stopped briefly at the 13 mile “food” stop while we used the toilet. From what I could see you had to buy your food, a first for an organised sportive. Same also at the 25 mile stop. We skipped the 38 mile and just cracked onto the finish. The finish was again a return journey under the Mersey which again was great fun but what an anti-climax the finish was…. Came out the tunnel, handed a water a medal and told to get out the way. It was just a very small patch of the road and that was it.The organisers of this event really need to look at other local sportives and take notes. Le Petite depart, Bike Chester and the Fred Whitton. See how they do it.I have done dozens of sportives over the years and this has by far the worst example of ignoring the highway code i have ever seen. Is this the organisers fault ? no it isnt but because of this and other factors i most certainly will not be back.

Loved the race. All the family took part includes a 5k, 10k, half and full marathon. 10k was very hot and tricky running back down the promonade. Great atmosphere and a good event for all of the family.
  • Did the event in 2018

This was my third time of running this half marathon, and once again no complaints. It's a road/path course and flat most of the way, with just slight inclines in the second half of the race. Good supplies of water every few miles.Support on the course is thin, so some may like their own music to listen to. It's right along the sea front and this can bring some inclement weather. This year it was cold, wet and windy, but last year it was warm and sunny. Be prepared for all eventualities.A straightforward run with no hick ups. FCR events are always pretty good in my opinion. A good medal and t-shirt at the finish, with chip timing as standard.Give it a go, you'll probably enjoy it and may even PB.
  • Did the event in 2018

FCR Events have been recommended in the past, and this is the first one I have done. Registration is simple and the company offer various events all year through their website. I got to Blackpool early and found a car park close to the start line, which was a bonus after running 26.2 miles....The Marathon and Half Marathon started at the same time, but in opposite directions and was well sign posted. The race went along the promenade from the north end of Blackpool, past the Tower, attractions and the Pleasure Beach. You then turned around and ran back along to Bispham, then back again. The added bonus is that the event had a full road closure along the front so the course was traffic free. The support was quiet early on, (started at 09:30), and it was raining. Crowds steadily got busier and the weather slowly improved. The last few miles was run in glorious sunshine and was actually quite warm. Upon finishing, you were handed a bottle of water, banana, chocolate, tshirt and a medal. All in all, it was a great event and I will certainly look at doing more FCR events in the future. PS: The medal is a cracker!

This is a popular series of races locally. The course is straight and mostly flat. If you’re lucky enough to get a tail wind the a PB is a definite possibility. Marshalling is fairly sparse on the course but mostly not really necessary as there are so few turns. Marshalls where they are needed were efficient and friendly. The course is mostly the local promenade so is open to the general public, including dog walkers and bike riders, but mostly people were considerate and a few of the bystanders cheered the runners on. Races are well attended but probably more suited to quicker runners who can keep pace with the field. Would definitely go again.
