The River Spey 10k Whisky Swim

The River Spey is a river in the northeast of Scotland. It is the ninth longest river in the United Kingdom, as well as the third longest and fastest-flowing river in Scotland. It is important for salmon fishing and whisky production. This is an unique swim which takes swimmers through the RSPB Insh Marshes nature reserve.

The race will be used as the Gateshead Harriers & AC Club Road Championship and will be used as part of the selection process for the Northern 6-Stage Road Relays Championships with the first male and female Gateshead Harriers being awarded The David Mount Cup named after our former Chairman.

Ben Nevis Race

A race up and down Britain's highest mountain - at 4406 feet. The Ben Race has been variously described with superlatives - oldest race, toughest race, most iconic race, the supreme test of fitness, etc etc - and whilst these claims are open to challenge, and the race is certainly not for the unfit or faint-hearted, the Ben Nevis Race Association will always defend its status as a very special event, and it is spoken of by participants with awe - and enjoyment. It has been held on the first Saturday in September every year since 1951, bar one, when the elements won.

Tom’s Cairn Trail Race

The Tom's Cairn 10K Trail Race was first organised in 2016 by members of the Parent Council for Finzean School and Ballogie Nursery.

The 10K starts and finishes at Birse and Feughside Church (with the kind agreement of the congregation and Minister) where there is access to parking, registration space and toilets. The 5K starts at the Church, down the hill and onto the Estate tracks into the woods. After deviating from the 10K route the 5K runners pass the small settlement of Turfgate and onto a small undulating path with glimpses of the hills through the trees.

Salomon Ben Nevis Ultra™

The Salomon Ben Nevis Ultra features remote Scottish glens, technical single track, airy ridges, & high mountain passes. Truly, this course is for the boldest all-round ultra-runners. In keeping with the ethos of the Salomon Skyline Scotland races, this route is very challenging with considerable height gain, great variability in the terrain including river crossings, and an airy traverse of one of Scotlands most famous ridges, the Crn Mr Dearg Arte, leading to the summit of Ben Nevis.

Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running

The Baxters Loch Ness Marathon is quite possibly one of the most stunning marathons in the world. With spectacular scenery, fantastic atmosphere and a truly memorable experience its no wonder it was voted in the top 10 UK marathons by Runners World readers in 2016 and is on the bucket list for many runners from around the world.

Breathtakingly beautiful, friendly atmosphere, flawless organisation, felt like a festival not just a race are just some of the comments we had from our runners in 2016 so why not come and experience it for yourself?

The Loch Ness Marathon follows a spectacular point-to-point route alongside world famous Loch Ness, starting in an atmospheric moorland setting and continues through stunning Highland scenery, taking you along the south-eastern shores of Loch Ness, across the River Ness, to finish in Inverness, capital city of the Highlands.

Why not make a Highland weekend of it and come with family or friends? Theres plenty to entertain runners and spectators over the weekend with a free Sports Expo, Baxters Food & Drink Fayre, live music, kids activities and a Wee Nessie for under-5s.

If you have entered we would like to thank you for entering your the jogscotland Christmas Cracker and Childrens Santa Dash taking place at Broadwood Stadium on Sunday 1st December 2019. The event is delivered by North Lanarkshire Leisure and is part of the jogscotland challenge series. The route is almost flat and a fast course with only a few inclines.

We welcome participants of all ages and abilities from the community and strive to meet the needs of everyone involved. We always provide free places for carers and where possible provide accessible parking opportunities. Any profits made from our activities are reinvested into the business each year to keep running costs down to a minimum wherever possible. We encourage volunteering with us to develop work experience, learn new skills and make new friends.

Lakeland Trails, Helvellyn

Starting and finishing at Jenkins Field (CA11 OUS), on the shores of Ullswater in Glenridding, the NEW! 5km Helvellyn Sport Trail, 10km Helvellyn Trail Run, 15km Helvellyn Trail Race and 15km Helvellyn Trail Challenge follow circuits along well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways that take you into the foothills of Helvellyn, with elevated panoramic views of Ullswater, and dramatic vistas of Helvellyn and the surrounding peaks. Underfoot conditions are generally good for those used to off road running but can be tricky in places.

A carnival atmosphere is guaranteed for both spectators and competitors, with live music, race commentary, food and drink all available at the start and finish. So, whether you're new to trail running, an experienced athlete, or simply looking for an unforgettable day out in the Lake District, a family-friendly, festival atmosphere and some amazing trail running awaits you!

What you need to know about Beginner Friendly Running Events

Whether you’re completely new to running or just getting back into the swing of things, we’ve got some great race recommendations to get you started. Chosen by our team, these are some of our favourite events for first-timers. 5k races & 10k races are perfect for beginners, they tend to be relatively flat (always check the elevation just in case) and there’ll usually be a great crowd to cheer you on.

Find the right running event for you

To keep motivated try to run with friends and to organise a race a few months away as something to work towards. Running as a sport is very inclusive, people love to chat and give a boost to those around them! Practice makes perfect so with the right training you can achieve anything. Start small and it won’t be long before you’re a total professional tackling the bigger races.
