A flat course with good pb potential, which would be even quicker if it weren't for a couple of tight turns. The course is a big improvement on the old one which went along the main road - nice views of the lake for one section.More marshals for support would be good, and safety wise I saw a nasty collision with a bollard in the middle of the course

Gosport 5k Summer series is the first 5k series I have ever taken part in. A terrific introduction to running races with incredible support and great marshalling. The atmosphere the gosport road runners creates you can hear from miles away. Highly recommended!

Another great race at the AR 5k at the glorious stokes bay in Aldershot.  With perfect conditions this is a great course for all seasoned and beginner runners alike. the marshalling was once again spot and and great support. This is the first year the RN have entered a team for the race series and the amount of local support given to the RN from the marshalls was excellent.the course was well marked out with clear distance signs.would recommend to anybody wanting to do a 5k race, can’t wait for the next one

The summer series races are my favourites of the year . This week the weather was perfect for the runners and what is special about these races are the runners range from the elite (15 mins /5k ) to the first timers (50mins+ /5k ) everyone is so friendly , and more than that , inclusive . With seaside views , perfect !

A good quality medal and impressive medal are all included in the price.  I'll be entering again as soon as registration opens.

Race 3 of the series and unlike race 2 the weather was different.  A windy and wet run along the front however the marshalls where outstanding! Safe to say they were the happiest out on the course! Great pre race brief really smooth and fast registration.  Big thanks to Nick and the team at AR and Niceworks for putting on another great event.  Even managed a PB in the not so favourable conditions!

Well supported local run on the Stokes Bay seafront in Gosport. Beautiful setting on The Solent, flat, fast course with plenty of friendly marshals with clear signage. Ample parking, toilets and several options for refreshments. I’ve done both the Golden Mile and 5K before and I’ll be back.
  • Did the event in 2018

First year as a competitor rather than part of the team of marshalls. Still a wonderful location which affords views, speed & safety for all concerned. Unfortunate that runners had to contend with a brisk headwind but although it prevented an attempt by the winner Alex Teuten at a Sub 4, it didn’t otherwise detract from a lovely event. The locals really turn out in numbers to support this and it’s appreciated by all of the runners. I’ll be back. PS. The medal & T shirt were fabulous.

This is a series of five 5K races over the summer, on the second Tuesday of the month. Usually at 7:30pm, but race 5 in September will be at 7pm.I missed out on this series last year (new to the area), so was keen to try it out this year. Pleased to say I loved it and have run all 4 of the series so far and have signed up for the final race already. You can sign up online or on the night. Meeting point is the Bayside Cabin, Gosport. Which has plenty of parking and also serves lovely beer/ coffee & food for after the run. The race is basically an out and back along the seafront, taking in two loops of a large field. It is pan flat and an ideal PB course. There are many prizes on offer too (wine/ vouchers) for male and female winners and runners up in pretty much all categories and the presentation is always a highlight after the run. Perfect setting for a run and lovely, friendly environment- recommended!

  • Did the event in 2018

This is an annual event in Basingstoke and as it was local, only £15 to enter and in aid of a good cause, these were all good reasons to enter. The event consisted of a 5k and 10k run, with 2 water stops, all run mainly on grass at Down Grange and there was a good turnout of over 800 runners. Bib numbers were sent out several weeks before the event and there was adequate parking nearby. The event was compared by a local radio station and there was a good atmostphere with good spectator and marshalling. The route for the 10k was a 2 lap course and was reasonably flat although the grass was a little bit long in places. I had competed in the Rungatwick half marathon the previous Sunday and felt a little jaded. Never a great fan of lapped courses but once over the halfway mark i was homeward bound. A medal, bottle of water and snack were handed out at the finish line for a good effort of 53.52- not my fastest. An enjoyable event and will do again next year

It was a very rain,y August. Thankfully the registration was in the fire station. Lots of volunteers to direct you, queues minimal. Frequent emails and info prior to the race. The race starts on paths and then goes into trail. The last 10 miles were very hard as they seemed to be all road and going through housing which led to,some confusion as to whether we were going the right way. Thankfully some small very helpful volunteers (scouts) came to our rescue. The checkpoints were great especially the one which had home made bread pudding. I could have stayed there all day. Some road crossings could have done with more Marshalls. The Marshall at the last checkpoint didn't seem to know how much further . This was when we started to run through the town centre which seemed as though we were just making up the distance. The trail sections which state,y homes and castles were amazing it was just the last section which seemed to let it down. It was then when. You needed some nice scenery most on heavy cold tired legs. The medal was a generic one for all the race distances which was a little disappointing

My First Ultra.Back in December last year I was looking to fill up my race calender for 2018. Whilst searching for events in the summer months, I managed to stumble on a few Ultras listed, from 50k to 100K’s. For some reason, over the next few days my mind kept toying with an idea on completing one.So I spent time looking into Ultra races that were suitable for me. And that’s when I found Salisbury 54321 Trail Ultra 50K.50k (31 Miles) doesn’t sound too bad if you have done a marathon before, only an extra five miles, quite easy to be over confident. I didn’t really think about the trail bit when signing up at the time to be honest. So after paying my entrance fee for a value price of £27.00 I had 8 months to prepare.Fast forward to July one month before. After missing March out because of an injury, my plan was to really start increasing my mileage in late June/July. My minimum goal was to run at least run 31 miles a week, but with a lot of 5k and 10k league races most weekends, I did find it difficult finding enough time to complete and recover from my long runs. Race DayAfter training through the hot months, it was just my luck that had to rain on the one day I wanted it to be dry.The start and race number collection was at Salisbury fire station. It was quite a relaxing atmosphere and everyone was really friendly and helpful. This event had a few different choices of distance from 10k-50k’s, walkers and all.The 50k started at 9:30am and I felt good, with music on trying to be chilled and to slow my pace down. The first few miles felt reasonable flat and I was running between 7:30-8 minute miles, way faster than I should have. Then we hit the Old Sarum and this is where it seems to be the beginning of the inclines and fields, you have to be very careful where you plant your foot. (I did see two people slip over at the Old Sarum loop around) By now it’s 8K completed and the route links you up with the 42k runners. I made the mistake of keeping with the same pace with the new set of fresh 42k runners.I’m a bit annoyed I didn’t look up more and check my surroundings more, as I only seem to remember the grind of hills and long grass fields, I was pushing it too fast.I did remember running through the lovely Langford Castle grounds and passing the race course. But by mile 21 my legs weren't having it and were in pain. Running that hard on a multi terrain with an elevation of 1680ft at the same pace was a big error, now I’m paying for it.My upper body felt reasonably fine, it was my legs that were struggling. Have I hit the wall or was it the lack of training and going too fast? Maybe if I started off at 10 minute pace from the start I would’ve been ok? I admit the last 10 miles were a struggle, I was on my own at this point as most of the runners were running at a sensible pace and were miles behind. I was a tad concerned at getting lost and really had stay focused and look up more, as you could easily miss a sign and head off in the wrong direction when not being in a group. I really didn’t need that mistake now. With my legs in pain, my plan was to be positive mentally and I found myself jogging 200 yards, then walking for 10 seconds, it worked well, but felt like forever until I got to Salisbury Cathedral, where I knew I was near the finish line. It seemed to lift me, so I manage to run the last mile through the town centre to the finish line without walking with a time of 4:24:09.My overall position was 15th, with amongst a lot experience ultra runners, so that was an achievement I am proud off.It certainly was not sensible running by me by any means, and I would strongly advise any first time Ultra runners to slow down considerably especially off road terrain races as it does take a lot more out of you, or even run with a friend. But I’m delighted to tick off completing an Ultra off the running bucket list :)
  • Did the event in 2018

The event is based at Salisbury Fire Station and registration, bag drop and race briefing were all satisfactory. I did the 21k and the first couple of k are flat however after that it is up a steep hill. This is a trail race and you go through quite a few gates. Some of the tracks are very narrow and if your are 6ft+ tall like me i had to bend down on several occassions to miss bushes. The first half of the course seemed more hilly than the second half. The course is well signposted, however when you get near the end and go through the town centre it is easy to get lost. There was cup of water at regular intervals and fruit at one station. On completion you are given your medal and drinks and jelly babies are available. This event charges the same £32 for all events 50/42/33/21K so it is probabley better value if you do the longer distances. I felt a bit short changed since there was no t-shirt handed out and i feel they should have a graduated pricing structure. £25 is more than enough. Overall i enjoyed the event and the local countryside is a big plus point.

Tarrant Valley 10
Tarrant Monkton, South West, United Kingdom

The Tarrant Valley 10 comprises a multi-terrain 10km race and a separate 1-mile children's race, hosted by the village of Tarrant Monkton, set entirely within the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Both races start and finish in front of The Langton Arms pub right in the heart of the village.

The 10km race begins on tarmac roads but, after the first kilometer and a challenging ascent into Hogstock Coppice, the course continues on well-surfaced bridleways and farm tracks. Relatively flat through Sing Close, Long Row, and Calcott's Coppices, half-way is reached at Six Cross Ways in Chetterwood. Past Strawberry Coppice and a gentle climb to Launceston Wood, the course then opens out to deliver a quite spectacular view over the North Dorset countryside. An exciting 800m descent on Common Drove leads to the road once again and a 600m sprint through the village to the finish. Approximately half of the race is in shade.

Andover Food Bank Lake Run

We are delighted to announce plans for the Andover Lake Run 2019.

Last year we had nearly 500 runners for the three races and Steve Holder a Hampshire fireman and seasoned marathon runner opened the run, and ran the 10k. Our local mayor Councilor Carl Borg-Neal ran the 5k and then presented prizes donated by Alton Sports. Our main sponsor was Vitacress who handed out nutritious shots to all our competitors at the finish line.

It was a fantastic day and all the runners were well supported by family and friends. In addition, over 7,000 was raised for the foodbank.

It was an early start at 8 am. The sun was very welcome as it helped warm up a cold morning. We ran through the neighborhoods and headed for the coastal roads. Some beautiful views here looking out to the coastline. There were also a couple of small hills as we went down to the boardwalk and then back-up to the roads. There's a pretty tough hill around mile 9 that slowed us down. Once we caught our breath back, the final two to three miles was exciting as we made our way to the crowds and ran along the piers and onto the finish line.
