Glasgow has a range of running events, whatever your experience. Shorter distances, such as 5k or 10k races, often have a fun, friendly, and family-focused atmosphere and are great for getting involved with the local community. Glasgow hosts a popular 5k and 10k Winter Warmer series, for those who have set themselves a fitness-based New Year's Resolution. Longer distances, particularly half-marathons and marathons, often take place on city streets, past famous landmarks. The Great Scottish Run is the highlight of Glasgow's running calendar, attracting 21,000 runners and the TV cameras of the BBC each year. Beyond the flagship half-marathon race, there is a 10k option, as well as family and children options on the main Sunday and the day before, making it a huge weekend running festival. If you want to get off the city streets and onto the trail routes, the River Ayr Way Challenge is a stunning option, or the Ochil Ultra offers a 30 mile or 50 mile race, leading from Stirling University to Central Perth.

The background Glasgow South Road Runners organised their first race in 2019. Toota-Linn formed part of the Tour of Clydeside series. This allowed us to lean on some good experience in race organisation, whilst being left to make the major decision about route planning and marshalling. The event was a roaring success, with many runners proclaiming Toota-Linn as their favourite race in the series. Basking in that success, we studied the race calender looking for a gap in the market. A ten mile race on the Southside in our stomping ground seemed to be called for. Route planning left us frustratingly short of that distance each time. We wanted a route to call our own. Not a rehash of the other races that use Pollok Park, and not loads of laps. Pollok House is integral to the park, and we wanted to start and finish with that perfect backdrop. A route came in that was great, but again too short. So instead of battering proverbial heads against a brick wall, we change from a 10 miler to a 15km! And reserve the right to change this again in the future! Route Starting at the steps of Pollok House on the banks of the White Cart River, Pollok 15 quickly heads into the main park paths. A predominantly clockwise loop, with an inner anti-clockwise circuit, the route undulates round Pollok Park for three laps before returning to Pollok House Time and date 10am on Sunday 9th May 2021Location of start Pollok House, 2060 Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow, G43 1AT Receommened parking and travel The Riverside carpark adjacent to Pollok House is the closest carpark. After a brief pause in 2020, the Milngavie Trail Race is back again in 2021! This a challenging race based around the wild and beautiful trails of the West Highland Way and Mugdock Country Park. The race starts and finishes at the Headquarters of the 20th Glasgow (1st Milngavie) Scout Group and takes runners out through some scenic and challenging terrain. When - Sunday 6th June 2021The race is being organised by 20th Glasgow (1st Milngavie) Scout Group and any funds raised from the event will go towards much needed improvements and repairs to the Scout Hall and its grounds and to purchase new equipment to provide activities and fun for our 190 young members.  The route will be fully marked and marshalled and finishers will be rewarded with a medal and as much cake as you can eat at race HQ! The race is a Scottish Athletics Permit event and is being held under UK Athletics Rules  The race is held on a mixture of hard trails, single track and unmade ground. The route will be signposted and marshalled but runners remain responsible for their own safety at all times and must ensure that they are appropriately dressed and trained for the event and weather conditions on the day.Race Distance: Approx 8.4 milesCourse Records:Male: Del Young - 52:10 (2016)Female: Katie White - 57:42 (2019)The race will be timed using electronic chip timing and results will be available as soon as you cross the finish line.There will be no water or feed stations on the course and so it is runners own responsibility to carry any water or food that they will require for the duration of the event. The event is open to all runners with a minimum age of 17 years old on the race day. There will be an entry limit of 300 and once these are full we will operate a waiting list. If a place becomes available following a withdrawal, those on the waiting list will be notified and offered an opportunity to take up the place.If you are unable to run or require to withdraw prior to race date, the following refunds will apply: Withdraw before 1st August 2020 - Full refund Withdraw after 1st August but before 1st September - 50% refund Withdraw after 1st September - no refund  Race registration will be open from 9:00am on the day of the race and will close 15 minutes before the start. Kit bags can be left at Race HQ which will be occupied throughout the duration of the event but the organisers accept no responsibility for the safety or security of any articles left unattended. The race will start at 11:00am There is no parking at the event HQ but plenty parking available a short walk from the start at Tesco (CCTV and Parking Restrictions may apply) and Milngavie Train Station. There is also a regular train service direct from Glasgow to Milngavie with the first train on Sunday morning arriving in Milngavie at 9:33am and then every half hour thereafter. The train station is a 5 minute walk from Race HQ. Runners must assemble at the start line 10 minutes prior to the start for the race briefing. All finishers will receive a medal and as much tea, coffee and cake as you can eat! Prizes will be awarded to overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in both Male and Female events and the overall winners of the Senior Male and Female categories will be presented with the Milngavie Scout Staffs for safe keeping. There will be a selection of great spot prizes and oh, did I mention the cake? BE PREPARED!

Sunday 12th September 2021   The running of the Kilmacolm Half Marathon, 10k and 3k  is one of the biggest participation events in Inverclyde&#x27;s sporting calendar. The Kilmacolm Running Festival is now a scottishathletics Licensed Event and Under UK Athletics Rules. Inverclyde Leisure have done everything to make this an enjoyable event for the runners and the people of Inverclyde. We also encourage families to get involved for a fun filled day! All races start at the Birkmyre Park Fitness Gym. The first event of the day is the Toddle Woddle which starts at 9am for a walk/run around Birkmyre Park. No pre-registration is required. The 3k race will start at 9.15am, Half Marathon will start at 10am, 10k will start at 10.30am. Registration opens at 8am- and will close 15 minutes beofre the race event is due to head off. On the day entries are available until 15 minutes before the event you want take part in starts and pre-registered participants are required to register on the day to collect their entry pack which includes a timing chip, race number and t-shirt. Runners make their way through the streets of the village, surrounding countryside and along the cycle path for the 10k and Half Marathon before returning to the Birkmyre Fitness Gym for the finish. General Information Electronic chip timing will be used. The race takes you through the Whitelee Windfarm, entering at the Ardochrig end and exiting at the Visitor Centre, Eaglesham. This Section gives views to Arran, Ailsa Craig and Ayrshire to the West, Greater Glasgow, Ben Lomond and The Campsie Hills to the North. Look South and you’ll see Tinto Hill. The Course varies from road to trail and includes a 11 mile section through the Whitelee Windfarm. The cut off time for the Ultra race is 10 hours. There will be 4 Checkpoints with drop bag facilities for the Ultra Race, the checkpoints and drop bags are at the relay change over points. It will consist of two laps from Zetland Park to the Penguins and back on roads that are closed to traffic. If successful this may become an annual event.The race will start at 1pm utilising the road closures in place for the cyclling element of Redcar Sprint Triathlon event  (a European Qualifier) held on the morning of the race. The last cyclist is expected to finish by 12 noon, so if you arrive before this then please take care not to step in front a competitor. Also as the swim element is in the open sea, it is possible that weather conditions could cause a delay, which could have a knock on effect on the start time of our race. However we believe we have allowed more than enough time under normal circumstances, for the whole triathlon to be completed before we start.Medal and goody bag to all finishers.

Check out our website for course maps and further information  www.lochlongevents.comThe ChallengeNote - Entry limit 120 – (60 teams of 2) no entry on the dayThis event is being organised by the Loch Long Jetty Association and is a Triathlon Scotland Permit Event.  It will take place on Saturday 7th May 2022 with the 1st Wave starting at 10.30 and the 2nd Wave starting at 12.30.  Competitors must compete in teams of two.  Sign up as a team by entering the details of the 1st Team Member and then answer the questions relating to the second team member and your team name.  If either one or both of the team is a member of Triathlon Scotland or Triathlon England or Welsh Triathlon you will receive a discount of £6.00.  This event consists of a kayak on Loch Long for 3.5km on twin sit-on top kayaks (kayaks, paddles and buoyancy aids supplied). Competitors must supply and wear a wet suit for this section and footwear. There will be a cut-off time of 90 minutes to do the kayak section although you will still be allowed to continue with the cycle and the run but your time will not be recorded for competition purposes. This will be followed by a fairly strenuous mountain bike section which is 24km long largely on undulating forest tracks and away from the public road. Competitors have to supply their own mountain bike and this must be in a roadworthy condition and they must wear a properly fitted cycle helmet and carry appropriate repair kit.  1st Wave Competitors will need to finish this stage by 3pm and the 2nd Wave Competitors by 5pm. The last section of this adventure challenge is a 5km run starting on private roads through woodland and forest before running on the pavement alongside Loch Long with views of Arrochar and Ben Lomond.The provider of our kayaks, Loch Lomond Leisure (info@lochlomond-scotland.com) are willing to hire out mountain bikes (£15 per person with helmet) and wetsuits (£5 per person).  This must be booked prior to the day of the event.The Loch Long Adventure Challenge is open to competitors aged 17 years or older on the day of the event.  The entry fee is £106 per team of two (£100 if either or both of the team  are a member/s of Triathlon Scotland, Triathlon England or Welsh Triathlon).There will be prizes for winning teams (Male, Female and Mixed).  This will be based on the cumulative time of the two team members finishing the event.  There will also be an individual prize for the fastest male and fastest female.  There will be a prize for the first local team and all finishers will receive a memento and t-shirt.
