    • Did the Middle in 2018

I think the organisers should've said the swim MAY be non wetsuit. I brought mine with me just in case but lots didn't. There wasn't much support from Marshalls on the bike route, one on a tight corner sat in his car the whole time literally paying no attention to the race. Another I told a competitor needed assistance, the Marshall didn't seem to know what to do. To top it all off the run was over a mile short? Couldn't we have added an extra lap?
    • Did the Sprint in 2018

Very late start meant family hanging around longer also messed with pre race nutrition. Transition not very organized with regards to bike racking. Very poor.
    • Did the Olympic in 2018

The note about it being a non wet suit swim was confusing and if you had said it 'may' be a non wet suit swim then all those who didn't bring theirs may have done, I did have mine.

    About the event
    From the organiser

The National Water Sports Centre is the perfect venue for testing yourself on a perfectly flat course where the tempo is high and the competition is fierce (and friendly!)

Whether youre an experienced athlete looking for a fast time over the sprint distance, or youre a novice competitor looking for a safe and friendly venue for your first open water triathlon, then the Nottingham Triathlon is the perfect event.

The arena type venue with an overlooking grandstand, blaring PA, electric atmosphere and big crowds will push you beyond what you think you're capable of. Whether it is your first triathlon or you are trying to qualify for the national Age-Group squad, we guarantee you will enjoy the fully closed road-circuit style race and the extra support that brings with it.

The swim takes place in the regatta lake, with a simple out and back course, followed by four laps of the perimeter lake on the bike. Dont forget the wind, which can push you back one way, but also propel you at high speeds in the opposite direction. The run covers on and off road sections before taking you past the cheering grandstand to the finishing line.

This fantastic venue offers camping and ample car-parking, making it the perfect event to bring the family to, as they'll get to see you swim, bike and run as well as have the opportunity to enjoy the park environment and various activities on site. There are two main cafes on site, changing and shower facilities and very easy access to Nottingham city centre just two miles down the road.

my second time at Nottingham sprint and this year it was an ETU qualifier, so Everyman and his disc wheel and pointy helmet was here. The water was lovely and warm, perfect conditions. The organisers do a fantastic job and the set up Is fabulous. The bike course is 4 laps of the 2k lake, so just under 20k. Closed roads, flat and straight...don’t forget to save something in the tank for the 1 loop 5k run of the lake before hitting the red carpet finish.
    • Did the event in 2017

I first raced this event in 2015 as a qualifier and enjoyed the event. The field was much smaller with it not being a qualifier this year, shame as its a great event and run well (like all OSB events).  OSB events always run smoothly and are well organised which is exactly what you want on race day. Swim was chilly (about 14 degrees), one large loop and nice wave sizes so there wasnt as much violence in the swim as most open water swim starts. The bike was 4 laps round the lake, surface isnt great but its still a nice fast flat circuit. The run is a flat and fairly fast but draining when you feel like your not getting closer to the finish as you can see it for almost all the 5km run as its one lap round the lake. Nice atmosphere and the event was run smoothly start to finish despite the awful weather. Also a great event for spectators as you get to see all the swim, 4 times on the bike and can see on the run so get to watch most the race. Would recommend to all ability athletes.

This is the 2nd time I've done the Pitsford Sprint and both times the event organisation has been faultless. A good number of safety kayaks and marshalls on course and it's a very scenic event, going out into lanes and around a reservoir. The bike course is surprisingly lumpy and the run is a flattish trail but both are unique and interesting. The swim in Pitsford Reservoir is a treat as this is the only time swimming is allowed here. However both times the swim course has been shortened due to low temperatures. No medal but a nice tee (fitted for women) and a hat are the goodies. Good lot of AG trophies and these are pretty wooden ones. Parking is close and transition appears secure. Also no loo queues and coffee and food available indoors afterwards. Would recomend.
    • Did the event in 2017

This is a local race for me and for a change went very short (Sprint vs Long distance!) praking & registration is nice and easy partly as this is a small race in terms of numbers but very friendly. TBF I prefer smaller races.on arrival in transition by my fav BTF referee which always brighten the day.post briefing, the race went of on time in a cold lake were the swim was shorten due to wind chill on the bike. Course clearly marked and really easy to navigate. On to the bike, although 20km the course has no flat section which makes it interesting.the run uses part of the track around Pitsford so nice and easy!small gripe, the timing chip which once ended in at the of the race provided you with a time, gave you no splits (T1/T2) or ranking which a bit of a shame.would recommend it and do it again but need to prepared for a thermal shock and potentialy a shorter race!

I probably should have known when signing up for this that the water was likely to be cold given how early on the year it was - this didn't even cross my mind. As a result of spring/summer deserting us so far this year the temp of the water was a barmy 12 degrees, this meant the swim was shortened by 250m, making a 500m swim. That was more than long enough in there! The swim course was lovely though, despite the cold, big buoys which made following the course really easy, set off in 2 waves also helped to eliminate being kicked in the face! Short run up to T1 and I set off on my bike. The course was by no means hilly but I would use undulating instead, really quiet roads and big signs made it easy to follow. Back into T2 (with numb feet, made putting trainers on fun). Then set off on the run, an out and back along the dam and around the water, it was gorgeous and so pretty. All in all i really enjoyed this race and route, registration was easy with a 10 minute walk from the carpark to registration and transitionI cant wait to return in July for the Olympic when hopefully they'll have turned up the hot water

In 2018, a packed crowd witnessed Team USA take the gold ahead of Great Britain at the inaugural Accenture World Triathlon Mixed Relay Nottingham. 19 international quartets had decended on the city, all racing in search of Olympic qualification points as part of the World Triathlon Mixed Relay series, just two days before they headed north to take on the British leg of the ITU World Triathlon Series in Leeds.

International quartets will once again return to the banks of the River Trent on Saturday 15 June 2019, as the battle continues for qualification points to secure a place on the start line as Triathlon Mixed Relay makes its Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Games. But the event is not all about the elite action with over 200 Age-Group and GO TRI first time triathletes having celebrated their blue carpet moment last year, the 2019 event welcomes the British Age-Group Sprint Distance Championships to the schedule creating opportunities at all levels of the sport to take part in the action across a range of event distances.

First established in 2002 the Dambuster Triathlon is a well recognised feature of the triathlon calendar in the UK. The venue is about as perfect as can be for triathlon.

Fantastic event, big field and crowd turn out for a qualifying event. The course is a single swim and bike lap, two-lap run along the dam. Rutland Water is a great place to swim, the Rutland Ripple climbs on the bike will challenge you. Excellent marshalling.

This is a local race for me but not competed for a few year. The numbers seem to have dropped over the last few years but still a very well organised event from a very experiance team at Pacesetter Events.Nice calm swim in the creak just off the main body of water, one simple loop and easy to navigate.Bike is undulateing and with 3 shortish climbs to test you and is slightly long for an olympic at 26miles.Run is an out and back cousre, nice and flat but can be windy, this year the weather was perfect.
    • Did the event in 2018

When I first got into Triathlon in 2012. The Dambuster triathlon was  race i hear talked about a lot. It was difficult to get into and was one that always had a high quality field. Well I finally got round to entering and I was'nt dissapointed. I know the area and the route well ... but you never get bored of the natural beauty of the location. Set at Rutland water a large inland reservoir the scenery is stunning. The swim is in good quality water in a area which hides the swimmers from any real waves whipped up by the wind. The layout of the transition is close with no major hike from water to T1. The bike course loops around the reservoir and provides a real challenge with some rolling hills with some very fast sections mixed in. The run is fairly flat and again hugs the reservoir providing stunning scenery to finish the race. Overall thus is a great race well organised and it's surprising it is no longert as popular as it once was. It was still a good quality field to compete against and  fair course to race on.

A really fab local event which I will 100% be back to do again Plenty of parking in the car park, I paid to park but later learnt you got a parking permit in your race pack, I'll know for next time. Takes about 10 minutes to walk from the car park to registration and transition. Super quick and easy registration, nice to have a technical T shirt this time too. The water was 20 degrees and really lovely, although it did get quite choppy out there. With it being one big loop it makes you realise how far 1500m is. The last 100m or so was really weedy and while they said they had cleared it it still wasn't very pleasant. A short run up to T1 and out on the bike. The bike course is abosutely lovely, I would call it a rolling course with about 1,000ft of climbing but only really 2 noticeable climbs. However you do take on 2 pretty busy roads, which even at 8:30 still had people driving past quite fast, if you are nervous in traffic then I would avoid this. But some lovely marshals on the course, only thing I would ask for is more sinage just to reassure me I'd gone the right way. Back into T2 and off on the run. Which was abosutely beautiful, running nearly a full lap of the water. 3 water stations on the course, including one as you set off. It's a rolling course but with no serious climbs, but the last 2 miles is tough. Which brings me onto the only downside of the event, advertised as a 10.1K it was closer to 10.4K or 6.5 miles! It would have been nice to know this before hand! Back in to finish in the country park just by the car park. No medal at the end and only a small bottle of water. But a bit of fruit on offer too. A bigger bottle of water would have been nice. It's an event I really enjoyed though and I would abosutely do it again
    • Did the event in 2015

There is only one word to describe this race, GLORIOUS! On arrival I was suprised with how small the race seemed to be, transition looked tiny with only three rows of racking, and everyone seemed to be a little bit serious......like, they all knew what they were doing.....(I may learn one day soon, that so do I) I was particuarly nervous, but I liked the feel of the race.Race briefing done and it was time to get it the water, I prefer a deep water start so this suited me well, and soon we were off. There were two waves and I was in the first, as it wasn't a particuarly big field there weren't many of us in the water but I positioned myself to get 'in the mix' as race practice. The swim itself was great. The water was a lovely temperature at 16-18 degrees and the course marked at well. I took a few knocks in the first 500m or so until we reached the first turn and then left the lady that I had been drafting behind to crack on. I seemed to be on my own for the rest of the swim, I could see what I thought was a pack in front of me but I couldn't get onto it so just relaxed and came out the water and ran up towards transition. I looked at my watch, now THAT was a good swim..... and later learnt I was first out in my AG. Yaaaaasssssssss!Onto the bike where I just wanted to get my head down and get it done. I had ridden the bike route a few weeks ago so I knew how beautiful it was and how good the roads were, I needed to not look around and enjoy the view as that would add HOURS onto my time! But seriously, the route is gorgeous and fairly flat and good for a fast time, I'd recommend it for that alone and it is well known that I dislike being on a bike immensely! Apart from somebody sticking some traffic lights in half way up the biggest climb, and the evil headwind in the last 12km it was great! If I thought the bike was beautiful the run was something else. Running the perimeter of the water was lovely, it was mostly trail and a little bit up and down (and long by a good margin!) but I loved every minute of it. I was told I would love it, that I would have a huge smile on my face the whole way around it and I really did. I would certainly do this race again, it had a great 'feel' to it, the support was great as were the marshalls out on course. Although, we were promised cake at the end........there was NO CAKE!

A pool based, beginner friendly triathlon with something for everyone. Sprint and Try-a-Tri distances with both options available as a relay too. New last year, the Bridge distance is back. It's designed to be the next step for triathletes that haven't quite got the confidence to go for a standard distance yet. There is also a fiercely competed inter-club championship, 4 to score. Brutal bike route and super fast, flat run course.

Having competed in the Harborough Tri in 3 of its first 4 years, this year I volunteered to marshal - to give something back, which enabled me to see things 'from the other side'. The event coordination is superb - something you appreciate more when volunteering to see the attention to detail that the organisers place on all the pre-event preparations and volunteer briefings. Being out on the bike course and able to see every competitor coming past was really interesting to see the huge variety of competitors that this event attracts - at all 3 distances, from those out on their 'weekend bike' trying out a triathlon for the first time to those riding the latest hi-tech equipment and speeding past as they push for the best times. I look forward to next year when I'll be back - either competing or volunteering. Keep up the good work.
    • Did the event in 2018

It's my first year doing triathlons and therefore my first visit to this event. I was impressed by how well marshalled the bike course was, a marshall on every turn (not just a sign like at some other events) and at technical elements (some sharp bends) was really reassuring and gave confidence to tackle the course to the best of my ability.

the run course is through a playing field and then out into a housing estate, at first this doesn't sound to appealing but the marshals where very encouraging and many locals had set up outside their homes with banners and sweets and cheered everyone on.

Overall it is a lovely event, well organised, well marshalled and great for a first timer or someone chasing pb's.

      Thankyou

This is my second Erewash tri and the improvements made from last year are better marshalling and better organised than last year. For whatever the reason just seemed to run smoother. Happy with the marshalls around the road route although I will say it is open road for the most part. Run coarse nice and flat and I found it more helpful in the pool that each lane had a Marshall that counted the lengths done. Will be back next year

Do you want to take on a fun challenge that is like no other triathlon event you have ever entered? All you will need is three friends (they dont actually have to be your friends it just helps!) your swimming kit, a bike and your trainers!!

This event has been given the nickname of Organised Chaos for all the right reasons! It attracts over 1600 athletes from over 100 different clubs and is full of racing and laughing!

The format is going to be the same as it was in 2017, with all teams racing on Saturday in either the morning or the afternoon sessions depending on the make up of their team.

Each member of the team individually swims 500metres, before tagging their team mate, and so on, and so on, until all four people have completed the swim. Moving onto the 15km bike, each athlete individually completes the 15km bike, until the last team member then tags the first team member to start the 5km run section, with the final athlete finishing in front on the grandstand under the Triathlon England gantry!

The Outlaw Half Nottingham is one of Britains most popular events, often selling out in a matter of minutes. The Middle Distance event covers a 1.2 mile open water swim, 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run, which must be completed in less than nine hours.

The swim takes place in the regatta lake in wave starts. A single out and back course makes it easy to navigate and then with a quick escape via a very short transition, you are straight out on your bike. The roads around Nottinghamshire offer great surfaces for fast riding and only the odd short climb to challenge you. The bike course will be fast, but don't underestimate it - especially if it's a windy day!

On returning to the National Water Sports Centre, the flat multi-lap course around the lake and river path offers a feed station every mile or so and is lined with supporters willing you all the way to the finish line.

The start, the swim, much of the run and the finish are all conveniently located together, making excellent spectator and family viewing at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.

There is on-site camping, family friendly activities as well as excellent city centre hotels just two to three miles down the road. There are thousands of car parking spaces available; making this is the perfect athlete and spectator experience.

We will use the swim times given to ensure swimmers are of a similar ability. The bike leg takes place on the purpose built closed road cycle circuit and the run takes place around the inside of the cycle circuit. The bike and run legs are viewable from the raised bank.

On the instructions it says cycle on the right, pass on the left. This was changed in the brief to ride on the left, pass on the right.needs clarification.

The race organisation was excellent and the location was great for my first Olympic distance event. I would have rated the course higher. We warned about the pot holes but was shocked at the number of people who came off their bike. I took care through the chicance as per marshall's advice.I was thrilled with my sub 3 hour time, I didn't mind the laps as it was great for spectators (didn't approve of people walking their dog down the middle of the course!) and scenary was nice. However as this was my 1st event of this distance you can imagine my disappointment to discover that the Bike course and Run course came up short. I feel slighly cheated that to be advertised as an Olympic distance it was actually sub 40km and 10km respectively. I would have preferred for the course to be longer (additional lap) if that ensured the full distance. Otherwise I would participate again :)

Hi Daniel Thank you for taking the time out to review The Birmingham Triathlon and thank you for your comments. The bike course: I hope you heard in the race brief, we are trying desperately hard to get it resurfaced with Birmingham City Council, I have had countless meetings and email conversations with them but to date they are saying they do not have the funds. Its very hard for us to take sometimes because we know it is such a great race. Spectators, well they can be a pain where ever you go, I know when I take part in events. The bike course is slightly shorter than 40k for the reason and recommendations from BT, the turn by the Jamboree Stone was made shorter on safety grounds, I will address this for next year. As for the run course, well that should have been spot on, I measured it with our GPS and measuring wheel. Also here is a link to the website we use for measuring courses: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/23534605 Thank you Daniel and we hope to see you at our events in 2018 :)

    About the event
    From the organiser

One of Nottingham's key sporting events, the Outlaw has become (almost) even more legendary than Robin Hood, the Major Oak and Brian Clough!

Those who have conquered the Outlaw Triathlon are remembered in local folklore for having outwitted the Sheriff to complete a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run. As long as you can cover the distance in 17 hours or less, you will become an Outlaw. Six men have completed it every year since the Outlaw was launched in 2010; can they come back and finish it for a ninth time this year? And will you be joining them as a competitor or spectator?

The event begins with a mass swim start in the Regatta Lake at Nottingham's National Water Sports Centre. Its an out and back swim course which is easy to navigate. With transition right next to the swim exit you'll have every opportunity to set a super-quick time and even faster escape onto your bike.

The roads around Nottinghamshire are ideal for fast riding (time trial bike friendly) and there is only the odd short climb to challenge you, but dont underestimate the wind!

On returning to the National Water Sports Centre our merry men will rack your bike and see you out on to the flat run course around the lake and on to the River Trent path. You'll pass Trent Bridge, the City Ground, Wilford Suspension Bridge and the Victoria Embankment. The multi-lap course, which has been measured by UK Athletics, offers a feed station every mile or so, and is lined with supporters willing you all the way to the finish line.

On arrival at the finish you will receive a hero's welcome and be crowned a modern day Outlaw. Then you can enjoy the festival atmosphere with thousands of spectators cheering the athletes home until the sun finally sets on a spectacular day of racing.

Outlaw has been recognised as 220 Triathlon Magazine's Event of the Year in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 & 2017 and British Triathlon's Event of the Year in 2011.

great event well organised. Unlike other full distance races these guys were able to adapt the course quickly with changing conditions & keep the full distance

This was my first full distance race. I was previously familiar with OSB Events from the Half Outlaw at Holkham. I don't have anything negative to say about planning, registration or execution of the race and - if I ever race this distance again - I would definitely sign up for the Outlaw again.

Completed my first outlaw this year having finished the half in 2017. It is so well organised, instructions and briefing were done really well and the  organisers handled a late change to the swim (due to weather) very smoothly. You can also camp nearby. The most memorable highlights were the support crews around the course who were just amazing. And of course the ability to cross the finish line with a loved one if you want to!

I have done this race on two previous occasions but having now done a few more middle distance races over the years I feel my review may be a bit more balanced.

Registration & the option to leave your bike overnight is straight forward. The Transition area is large however due to the winds there was lots of debris on the ground which isn't ideal.

Swim is ok but i think due to the unusually hot summer there was loads of weeds and not very nice things at the start & finish of the swim. As its a running start the rocks underfoot were not good and certainly caused a few issues. Due to the wave system start if you were in the later waves you ended up swimming over/around the slower swimmers who started earlier. Not great for those weaker swimmers.

Bike course has started to get busier since the first time I did it. Its well sign posted and marshalls on the choke\issue points but so many more cars on the course. Started to fee a bit unsafe at times. There is 1 aid station at the lap point offering everything you need. On the second lap everyone is pretty much out on the course making it busy with traffic & bikes.

Run course was very well manned and the enthusiasm was great to see. Its a runners friendly course though not fully flat & if the wind is blowing it can be interesting

Great run finish line and you get a medal, T-shirt & Gilet so plenty bang for your buck.

Its a great race to step up & try Middle distance racing but for me that bike course is just getting to busy with cars these days. It being a Saturday race may not help

A fast half ironman on an undulating bike course and flat run. Nice venue, good organisation and friendly marshals. No sense of local support but then the route doesn't really go through anywhere where people would stand out and cheer! A bit of a disappointing finish line/area.
    • Did the event in 2018

Absolutely fantastic event from start to finish - friendly, accommodating and enjoyable. Rutland is a stunning venue, and my family and I were able to camp right by the water, which also meant a later wake-up call and a short walk to the start line for the 0600 brief.
Registration was quick and simple and the stash provided was amazing - good medal, nice cotton t-shirt and an embroidered Vitruvian gilet, all included in the entry price, along with plenty of nutritious (and not so nutritious... Space Invaders!) snacks.
Apart from the mass beach start over stones, the swim was really enjoyable, the water was clear beyond the first metre or two of pond weed and a comfortable temperature. A short run to transition, and then out onto a wonderful, well-marshalled, 2-lap bike course with some stunning views (although measuring short at 50.5 miles!) The run course was again two laps and really well supported along the route... with members of my family popping up in their Team t-shirts at every turn!
Overall, I loved it and would recommend this event to anyone.

Superbly organised event from booking from online booking(very late decision from me)to the finish.Pre race information is very thorough and points you in the direction of where to park and then an easy walk to the registration tent(registration was painless).Swim in the leisure centre pool again directions from the organisers are excellent and then a run to transition.Bike course is easy to navigate with left turns or roundabouts and well marked and marshalled(all very encouraging)Run is an out and back with a small rise to test the legs as you come out of transition, again well signed, marshalled(Derby tri club)and supported, with a small downhill to finish.both years there have been a wide variety of competitors and I'd recommend for anyone looking to complete a first triathlon.
