A positive first outing for this race.An honest course that has challenge in the bike and run sections. Transition was poor with no numbers or any guidance so bikes were hung incorrectly. Many first timers I suspect so it needed marshalling. Swim was pool based and done in waves. 5 seconds between each swimmer wasn't enough and after pushing off the wall I caught up with the guy in front. Bike route was multi lap on open roads. It did go onto the slip road of the Washington highway but I didn't feel unsafe at any point.Run was tough with multi lap course with a challenging hill! Marshalling on the course was fab. Helpful on the bike course and supportive on the run.nice high 5 bottle and gels with entry was appreciated! The event took me through the Tri process before my main events and that's what I wanted and got.

overall a brilliant race in a fantastic locationthe swim: Loch Morlich is a wonderful swimming loch and the course was well marked. The only downside is the entry/exit is littered with slippery rocks which need to be negotiated with care.the mtb: Again well marked but you do need to have your wits about you to make some of the turns when traveling at speed. The technical section is just that and your are warned in the course description as well as during the safety briefing. I had to dismount several times but so did many others and I would think only very experienced mtb riders would be able to bike the whole section. Great fun all the same.the run: 9km of forest road/track with some great views at the top of a fairly steep climb.i really enjoyed the whole race which is definitely an off road experience. If I was to go back would probably tackle the shorter version because of the technical mountain bike section which was a bit much for me. Good organisation and wonderful setting makes it a must do for true off road triathletes.

    About the event
    From the organiser

The usual Borders and Bridges Trophy will be awarded to the fastest club over the Borders and Bridges course, based on the cumulative time of the first 3 individual finishers from that club. The lower reaches of the Tweed provide an impressive back drop for this new event. Berwicks unique and historic environment, spanning both sides of the border, is a great place to explore by bike and the nature of the border crossings along the bike and run routes create a memorable platform for the event.
