The Big Sur International Marathon was established in 1986 and today is managed by a 15-person Governance Board of the non-profit Big Sur Marathon Foundation. Over the course of the last three decades, the Foundation added the Monterey Bay Half Marathon (2003), Run in the Name of Love (2013), and the Salinas Valley Half Marathon (2015) to its family of events. The race events are managed year round by a six-person full-time staff.
