The traditional Buxton Carnival Day race preceding the Carnival Procession and promoted by Buxton AC was changed to a new four mile route a few years ago, thereby avoiding the busy junction at Dale, London and West Roads. The new route, starting as usual on New Wye Street, proceeds along Spring Gardens, the Quadrant and on to St John's Road, up to the Duke of York at Burbage, and then left on to Macclesfield Road. At the bottom of Macclesfield Road, the route turns left on to Burlington Road. At the end of Burlington Road, the race once again heads up to Burbage, and back down Macclesfield Road to then proceed up Bath Road and finish on the High Street as usual, near to The Vaults. Last year's race was as popular as ever, with 187 runners - come and join us this year: the final stretch onto the market place, with everyone who's come to the carnival to cheer you on, is a tremendous experience.
