The first Men's 10k took place in Glasgow 9 years ago to raise awareness of men's health issues; it has now positively touched the lives of over 30,000 men and is a major event on both the running and health event calendars, attracting 4,000 men and growing each year! The Edinburgh event starts on the historic Royal Mile; this incredible city centre route then takes you into Princes Street Gardens, with the iconic Edinburgh Castle as your backdrop, onto Holyrood Park, where you take in the spectacular Arthurs Seat, and eventually on to a grandstand finish at Murrayfield Stadium.
While its brotherly Glasgow event has been around for a while, Mens 10K Edinburgh is only in its third year. Consistently around 40% of the men taking part have never entered a running event before. The life expectancy of a man in Scotland is, shockingly, still the lowest in Europe and three years less than in England and Wales. Suicide, in addition to other mental health problems, continues to be an issue of high significance to men in Scotland. Our aim is to help change this, little by little and the Mens 10K is how we are doing it!
