London Marathon Events

The London Marathon (currently known through sponsorship as the Virgin Money London Marathon) is a long-distance running event held in London, United Kingdom, part of the World Marathon Majors. The event was first run on 29 March 1981 and has been held in the spring of every year since. Since 2010, the race has been sponsored by Virgin Money.

Created by London Marathon Events Ltd, in partnership with Sported, The Big Half is a new one-day festival centred around the half marathon distance, which aims to be truly global and uniquely local in a celebration of the wonderful cultural diversity of the great city of London.

Up to 20,000 people will participate in events that include:

1. The Big Half: a half marathon starting at Tower Bridge and finishing in Greenwich, passing through the boroughs of Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Lewisham and Greenwich

2. The Little Half: a relay and other events over different distances of The Big Half course for participants of all ages and abilities

3. The Big Relay will be exclusively open to community groups from the host boroughs of Southwark, Lewisham, Tower Hamlets and Greenwich. Participants will be able to run in teams of four, each person will run one leg of The Big Relay over distances ranging from one mile to five miles.

4. The Big Festival: a celebration of Londons diverse culture, food and music which will take place throughout the day in Greenwich

The Virgin Money London Marathon is one of the six World Marathon Majors and the undisputed king of the UK race calendar.

The famous route takes athletes past London's historic sites, and crowds that have to be seen to be believed. In 2016 runners raised more that 59 million for charity, breaking the record for an annual single-day charity fundraising event for the 10th year in a row. The event has raised over 1bn for charity since 1981 and completing it is a lifetime ambition for every runner.

Prudential RideLondon: an annual festival of cycling - A true legacy of the 2012 Games

Developed by the Mayor of London and his agencies in 2013, Prudential RideLondon is a world-class festival of cycling. The fifth edition will take place over the weekend of 28-29 July 2018.

There is no other closed-road event like it that combines the fun and accessible element of a free family ride in central London with the excitement of watching the worlds best professional cyclists race in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic and Prudential RideLondon Classique.

Taking a cue from the London Marathon, amateur cyclists also participate in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 a 100-mile challenge on the same closed roads as the professionals, with the added incentive of raising money for good causes. For the first time in 2016, the event also featured the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 46 a 46-mile sportive created specifically for newer and also younger cyclists.

Children with Cancer UK Swim Serpentine is a one-day open water swimming festival staged in the heart of London. Organised by London Marathon Events, the festival is held in and around the beautiful Serpentine in Hyde Park, the venue for the open water swimming competition at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Children with Cancer UK Swim Serpentine is already a must-do event in the open water swimming calendar. All your needs are catered for with heated changing rooms, dunk zone, pontoon start and finish, full water safety crew, hot tubs and exhibition area.
