ÖTILLÖ

TILL is the origin of Swimrun, a new endurance sport driven by respect and dedication. Swimrun is about experiencing nature in the purest possible way, with Respect for yourself, for your team partner, for others and for the environment.

The smell of rosemary in the hills, the extremely clear, salty water in the combination with the whispers of history will make this an exceptional race.

In the past couple of years we have been looking for the ideal location for an early race and for a race in the Mediterranean. Both of these dreams came true in Croatia. We now have the great pleasure to present the Island of Hvar in Croatia as one of the new destinations for the TILL Swimrun World Series.

The island is magnificient, surrounded by emerald-colored seas and the exceptional Paklinski islands to the south. Hvar is known to be one of the most beautiful islands in the world.

Rosemary, lavender, wine, more than a 2000-year old history; just simply, a unique place for a unique race.

The Isles of Scilly is a place which we did not think existed. It looks like the lost world of Atlantis with clear, beautiful water, pristine beaches and ancient stone walls. For us it is a dream come true after searching in many places for our home in the UK.

We spent more than 18 months chasing our dream location in the UK, we wanted to find something unique. By chance we happend upon the Isles of Scilly. It is truely a unique place where it is difficult to not get emationally affected.

The Isles of Scilly are off the south-west tip of England, in the Atlantic. They have been inhabited since the Stone Age and is a mythical place. All in all 140 islands of which five are inhabited. At times, when low tide is low, you can walk between islands. Exceptional beauty and a pristine environment where the power of the Ocean is never far away! The trail- running is magical with some of the most beautiful runs we have ever done.

We work very closely with the Wildlife Trust to make sure the running sections have a minimum of impact on the nesting birds and wildlife.

In June the flowers are in full bloom which is apparent when passing through the beautiful Tresco Gardens and the sea is usually calmer but still with huge tidal changes of more than 5 metres.

TILL, The Swimrun World Championship is very difficult to get into and you need to be a very good team to manage the whole course. At the same time many people want to experience the TILL course; which in itself is impossible as it is too complex for us to do anything but the race once a year and at full race pace.

That is why we now introduce the very, beautiful TILL Sprint Final 15K which covers the last and very emotional part of the grueling World Championship course.

This sprint race is not easy but you do not have to go fast. We suggest that you have some previous racing experience as you can meet a lot of current along the way.

The winners of each category will get a free entry to an TILL Qualifier of choice for the following year.

The TILL Sprint Final 15K covers most of the last and very emotional part of the grueling World Championship course. A total distance of 15 km, with 10 runs and 9 swims. The longest swim will be 1 150 metres. Some swims can have a lot of current. The runs are beautiful and tough; some on soft trail, some on cliffs, some on old country roads and some with a lot of people around.

TILL is a unique race in a unique place. It is the origin of the Swimrun movement where teams of two race together from island to island ( till ). The teams swim between the 26 islands and run over them. The total distance is 75 kilometres of which 10 km are open-water swimming and 65 km are trail-running.

TILL is ranked as one of the toughest endurance races in the world by CNN.

TILL is the original Swimrun race, it is the Swimrun World Championship. To finish the TILL course from dawn to dusk, the competitors must be very fit and they must be very fast in and out of the water as there are 52 transitions.

The Seglarhotel in Sandhamn and Ut Vrdshus on Ut guarantee a high quality pre-race scene and a very good finishing environment. There are spectator spots and food stations at some well- known restaurants on the islands along the way. There are safety boats, medical staff and race marshalls on the course to try to guarantee everyones safety.

To gain entry to TILL you must either qualify in an TILL Swimrun World Series race, have great merits, participate in 7 races in 24 months or just be lucky.

ÖTILLÖ The Swimrun World Championship

This race course is fast and spectacular! Not only do you need to be able to move fast along never-ending forest trails, you also need to be strong in the water with many swim sections and almost 25% swimming. The water is usually calm and flat so think of it as a giant pool. 11 swim sections means lots of transitions, be fast in and out of water to gain time.

The weather in late September is still quite summer-like, with warm days and cool evenings. As some of the swims are long remember to dress smart. Check the weather and temperatures leading up to the race so you do not get caught out as in 2016 where there was a dramatic drop in temperatures the last week. This is why the race has been moved three weeks earlier. Dress smart and according to the conditions.

Get ready for a fast paced race.

This race course is mystical, almost as if you are in a tunnel. A tough start in Wesenberg will bring you to pristine lakes and wild forest trails. You will pass places which feel like you are in the 20s and you will swim through amazing waterways. In the forests most of the ground is hard-packed sand and the trails are very clear, it will be fast running! We love almost straight line race courses.

We have decided to increase the amount of open-water swimming in our races and here you will all be put to test, almost 18% of swimming in magical lakes. The course will have 10 swims, totaling 7,5 kilometres; of which the longest swim will be around 1 300 metres. You need to have your transitions dialed, if you are not fast there you will lose lots of time going in and out of the water.

The winning time will be around 4 hours. We will have two cut-off for safety reasons and the longest time on the course will be 8 hours. Your team needs to be strong in the water and fast on land.

The total distance is 41,4 km. There will of course, be plenty of safety, energy stations in cool places and medical staff on call.

Get ready to embark on a new adventure, through mystical forests and in untouched lakes. Get ready for a wild race!
