The Terrible Two Double Century is one of the most challenging 200-mile rides in the United States. It follows a steeply hilly route around Napa and Sonoma Counties, passing through the vineyards of Northern California's most famous wine regions. It also explores many stretches of remote back-country and offers a long run down the rugged cliffs of the Sonoma coast. Scheduled for the weekend nearest Summer Solstice each year, it is notorious for the bake-oven heat that often occurs at that time of year.
This year, the Century will skip the Geysers and we'll instead add some of our favorite West County climbs. Enjoy cooler temperatures as you climb through the redwoods in the last 25 miles of your century ride. The Metric Century takes riders through the wine country regions of Alexander Valley and Dry Creek Valley. With only one climb, Chalk Hill, this metric century is great for beginners.

Hosted by Orange County Wheelmen, this classic ride climbs to the top of Onyx Summit the hard way! Starting in Redlands, the climbing is endless, and breathless, from there! The steepest climbing of the day, Oak Glenn, has miles of double digit grades. Youll get a well earned, but brief, respite on the way down to the base of the mountain. Then the climbing continues. Up from the ranger station to Angeles Oaks, and onward to Onyx Summit is probably the longest continuous climb in Southern California. Thirty miles of climbing interrupted by only a few little rollers at Barton Flats after Angeles Oaks. The clock stops at mile 75 when you breathlessly reach Onyx Summit at 8,435 feet. So stay awhile and enjoy the party before you enjoy the 42 mile descent back to Redlands.
Bike around the Buttes was started in 1984 by a man named Leroy Ervin, a type 1 diabetic. The original ride was from Yuba City to the Redding/Red Bluff area, but it was quickly deemed to be too long and intense for the average rider.

In addition to passing by many of the region's premier vineyards, the route winds through redwoods, apple orchards, and shady broadleaf forest. It meanders across meadows sprinkled with wildflowers and climbs over hillsides dotted with eucalyptus, bay, and oak. This is considered a moderately easy century...a good choice for those attempting their first 100-miler.It is not all flat though, and by the time the finish rolls around, even seasoned riders will feel they've earned their after-ride meal.
