What you need to know about 10k Running

10k runs are very popular, they’re an achievable challenge for anyone with enough training and are therefore some of the most fun and most inclusive events. 10ks are perfect team events, train with friends and colleagues and get a group together for race day.

Find local 10k running races

10ks are so popular you won’t have trouble finding one near you, whether it’s fancy dress for the BHF, or completing the Royal Parks Series (one in every major London park). 10ks are an excellent way to kick off the season if you’re a marathon runner or triathlete, they’re also a fun way to meet new people and get involved for charity.

Choose Malawi and you'll be joining us on the run of a lifetime in the home of distance-running. Not only will you spend the week on the shores of Lake Malawi (don't forget your cameras for those epic sunrises and sunsets), you'll also have time to meet some amazing projects really making a difference to the communities you will be running through and alongside. Empower yourself and use the power of running to help change lives forever.

For the first few days you'll get stuck into a variety of projects, then after resting up on day 5, you'll join hundreds of locals for the inaugural Malawi International Marathon!

Day 1:
Arrive on day 1 and there'll be a big Impact Marathon hug waiting for you when you arrive at Lilongwe Airport. From there we'll take local transport for the three-hour ride to our breathtaking Athletes' Village. Once there, after settling into your accommodation, we'll have our welcome meeting and talk you through what to expect from the week ahead. Then it's time for our opening night party - a big BBQ on the beach with volleyball, music, dancing and your first African sunset!

Day 2:
And now wake up to your first African sunrise! You will have a full day spending time with the projects and people youll be supporting, really getting to know them and seeing the difference you have made first hand. In the evening well have time to share our stories around the campfire, maybe a beer or two and an early night ready for another days work.

Day 3:
The projects are varied and today youll be exploring some new activities: from digging dams, to installing energy efficient stoves we will be keeping you busy all day long - its our goal not just to have our runners working and helping in the community but also learning - about the projects, the difference your money makes, the challenges facing the community - our runners finish the Impact week understanding the difference they are making!

Day 4:
Today we rise with the sun again to finish our projects through the morning. We do mean it when we say there is lots to do!! In the afternoon our KidsRunWild Sports Day takes centre stage with all the children from the local villages bringing their boundless energy to the party. Of all the volunteering, we bet this is the most tiring, but almost certainly the most fun.

Day 5:
Put your feet up, relax, share stories - rest those legs. Well have some fun competitions through the day - who is up for our signature 'Build Your Own Raft meets Dragon Boat Racing? Catchy right?

Day 6:
The moment has come. Start line, time to run together as a community, in one of the worlds most outstanding location. This is the home of distance running, the sounds, smells and feel of today will stay with you for a life time. Forget personal bests and take it all in. There really is no other race out there like this! And at that finish line, well have one ridiculous party for you to dance the night away. Youve earned it.

Day 7:
The race is over and you'll have the usual aches and pains to remind you. To take your mind off it we have organised some incredible experiences that show you the very best that Malawi and Sub-Saharan Africa has to offer. Alternatively you can return home and transfers to the airport are included.

Starting and finishing at Staveley Recreation Ground (LA8 9LN), the 5km Kentmere Sport Trail, 10km Kentmere Trail Run, 17km Kentmere Trail Race and 17km Kentmere Trail Challenge courses follow well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways, taking in panoramic views of most of the southern Lakeland fells. The trail climbs out from Staveley above the Kentmere valley, before returning along the valley itself past idyllic tarns and through ancient woodland, climbing Reston Scar before the descent back into Staveley village. Underfoot conditions are quite variable and there's a bit of everything! Short sections of tarmac, grassy footpaths, stony bridleways with some stiles to climb over near the end, all add to the unique nature of the event.

A carnival atmosphere is guaranteed for both spectators and competitors, with live music, race commentary, food and drink all available at the start and finish. So, whether you're new to trail running, an experienced athlete, or simply looking for an unforgettable day out in the Lake District, a family-friendly, festival atmosphere and some amazing trail running awaits you!

It's a Piece of Cake 10Km is pleased to be back for its 4th year. Every year our race gets a little larger and a lot better. We have what we think are the best and most enthusiastic volunteers to loudly cheer you around a chip timed, undulating, 3 laps, 10Km course in one of Manchester's prettiest parks. The signature of our course is Angel Hill - it's steep, but thankfully short, and it's that hill that brings so many people back to our race year on year.
