It is a great race for a personal record if you are used to races in the Texas Hill Country; it is all cement though so it was hard on my knees.Because the temperature dropped from the 70s on the day before the race to the 30s for race day there was no ambiance, almost no spectators. It looked like they had a nice post-race party planned.
The volunteers at the water stations were very nice but they didn't seem to know exactly what to do; or maybe it was just the weather.
The police were really supportive and encouraging, and did a great job at indicating us which way to go and at keeping drivers away from the runners.
You really need to arrive early to park quickly; if you get there 30 minutes before the race the queue for parking gets really long and a little chaotic. They charge for parking, this time around it was 8 dollars!!! Another runner told me that she got charged $10; and some other people complained that after they had paid other parking attendants tried to charge them twice; so make sure you keep your ticket.
The medal is really beautiful and so is the t-shirt.

First let me say that I love how everything was color coordinated. Each race had different colored bibs and the distance signs for each race were respective of the bib color. Since all the races ran the same course and just turned around at different spots I loved knowing exactly which signs represented the half marathon distance.
This was an out and back course that started and ended at the Irving Convention Center and down onto the Campion Trails (for the half and the full). There were plenty of aid stations and someone constantly in an off-road vehicle monitoring all areas of the trails to make sure runners were okay and on track. The trees provided nice shade and it was relatively flat throughout the trails. The beginning and ending parts of the courses (all distances), had rolling hills. If you any hill you went up, you would run down on the way back in and vice versa.
Parking as super close, but you did have to pay $5 to park in the grass lot. I really don't like paying for parking in general, but for a race I've already paid for and to just park in a field, I wasn't very thrilled about that. But it is what it is, I was just happy it was close.
The medal was absolutely gorgeous and there were a few vendors after the race, but just your typical ones. A chiropractor, church, running store and a local fitness program. Nothing worth really sticking around for. Overall, I would do this race again pending there is a new medal out that is equally as beautiful as the 2015 one. The scenery is just gorgeous, even if it is an out and back course.

I've run this race multiple years and the 2015 race I PR'd! The course is exceptionally flat so this is a perfect race if you're looking for a great qualifying time. Or, if you're doing the full, for a BQ. The race is still small enough to feel community but large enough to have great vendors post race and fantastic support. Sad we moved out of state as this was one of my favorite races.

This was my first 10K to do and I really enjoyed it. It was a very busy race but they had warm-ups led by Orangetheory fitness which was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the course because we got to run along the river some however we were in neighborhoods for a small portion of it. The course was not overly challenging for a beginner and I definitely plan on doing the half marathon this coming year. The aid stations were about every 2 miles which I thought was a good spacing but there wasn’t much else other than water and electrolytes. This is a great local race for those who are in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and the after event was also very good. They had pumpkin flavored beer as well as pumpkin spice lattes and really got into the theme of the event. I would highly recommend this event for others especially new runners who are nervous such as i The aid stations were about every 2 miles which I thought was a good spacing but there wasn’t much else other than water and electrolytes. Very crowded race! Some confusion over the 5k course - halfway through the crowd the organizers rerouted the runners so the second half were going the opposite direction on a loop. As a result the runners were going straight at each other through the loop. Course ended up being .1 miles short if you were in the first half of the runners.Lots of snacks and beer at the finish, plus plenty of tables to recover. It was VERY windy so many people skipped.

I love Run Project. It's a local race companies that truly believes in giving back to local charities and taking care of their runners. This was the inaugural Pumpkin Spice race but it was obvious that it wasn't their first rodeo. It was held at Panther Island Pavilion like most Ft. Worth 5ks so the parking was ample and close to the start and finish lines, and they had the typical vendors onsite in The Shack which was great for pre race. It was pretty cold and windy that day so I am thankful that Run Project decided to include The Shack as part of the pre/post race experience because that wind was bitter. As usual with Run Project 5ks the course was super crowded, a lot of time is spent weaving around runners and walkers. This was a no stroller event so that helped out a lot, but I still saw a few strollers here and there. It was a basic course through the park and next to the Trinity River...no major scenery, but it wasn't bad scenery either. My only two complaints about the course is right before you hit the 1st mile marker the 5k course crosses with incoming 10k/15k course and since they start 30 minutes before the 5k there were definitely some conflicts with crossing runners. Secondly, there was only one water stop for the entire 5k at the halfway point, which I know might seem minor to some, but I just wish there was one more. They had a spice station, kinda like a color run but with pumpkin spice flavored powder you could go through. Again, it was nothing major I had plans to skip it anyways, but with the winds it was impossible for them to actually get spice on anyone. Overall, it was a fantastic race and I would happily do it again, the swag was amazing (long sleeve cotton shirt, color changing mug, sunglasses, and finishers medal) and Run Project really goes the extra mile for their runners. I mean they had three different flavors of pumpkin beer for their post-race beer garden, that's putting in serious effort.

This is a great course and great atmosphere. The course is wide so you dont have to dodge people that are walking. Also the indoor pickup of race stuff was great to keep up with my son. Great job
    • Did the 5K in 2019

This race is very well organized. There is plenty of parking and signage for participants to know where to go. However, the one negative is that the 10K course repeats the 5K course. This could be challenging for strong runners who end up leap-frogging the walkers on the 5K race. I suggest doing the 5K rather than the 10K as it is relatively flat with one hill (bridge) and a quicker pace is easily achievable.

I have run every distance at Cowtown and all of them are great! The half is a fun and challenging course that takes you through the historic Fort Worth stock yards. The full and ultra marathon stay on course with the half through mile 10. Most runners run the half marathon, so it gets a bit sparse at the split. However, the people of Fort Worth come out in full force to make sure the runners have an amazing experience. I have run this race 4 times (1-50k, 1-marathon, 2-half) and I would run any of the distances again!
