What you need to know about 5k Running

A 5k run is the perfect distance for a beginner, it’s 3.1 miles and is the shortest and most popular road running distance. It’s a great goal to include in your fitness regime because there’s no pressure, people walk, jog or sprint so it’s totally up to you.

Find local 5k running races

There are loads of great 5k events, they tend to attract a great crowd and are very family orientated. From runs around the London Parks, to night runs and family events, you won’t be short of 5ks to choose from. Most marathon events such as London or Berlin have a 10k and a 5k race as well so it’s worth checking the larger events.

Then on Sunday April 7th 2019 we will host 3,000 runners in our Half Marathon and Half Marathon Relay as participants run through African Adventure in Fresno Chaffee Zoo, with a grand finish along home-plate inside Chukchansi Stadium. Or choose our Rock and Run 5k, it doesn't go through the Zoo, but has all of the other benefits of the Half Marathon.

The Longhorn is back! Sunday April 28th 2019

Choose 5k, 10k, half marathon, full marathon or 60k Ultra set in private areas of Sherwood Forest & the beautiful grounds of Thoresby Park; next to a Grade1 listed 19th Century country house in north Nottinghamshire; Thoresby Hall.

Running over old military roads, cleared tracks through ancient woodland and grassed paths around the country estate. The route includes a few hills to offer a small challenge around the course in the most scenic countryside & forest. The elevation is noted on the downloadable course map. The course has very firm hard ground if dry (2015) but if we get rain (or snow!) then there can also be considerable amount of muddy areas to run through (2016). The event will be held 1 week later in 2019 from 2018 & we had glorious sunshine but in April - who knows?!

The Jurassic trail is not only a visually spectacular run along the Jurassic coast but also a challenge that some would class as undulating. The run has four route options and dependent on your choice depends on how much of a challenge you will have.

5km
Starting just next to Marsh barn, in the old pitch and putt gravel area the trail run takes us through the beautiful golf club and onto freshwater its flat for the first 3 km which is where the Aid station is located, after this the route follows the Jurassic coastal path through freshwater and you return to West Bay (Marsh Barn) along the Jurassic cliffs, and the views along the coastline.

10km
Again Starting just next to Marsh barn, in the old pitch and putt gravel area the trail run takes us through the beautiful golf club and onto freshwater its flat for the first 3 km which is where the first Aid station is located, after this the route follows the Jurassic coastal path out to Hive beach, Burton Bradstock, before we head westwards and then follow the path back to the Aid station at 8 km, its cliff path, and sea views all the way back to West Bay (Marsh Barn) along the Jurassic cliffs.

Half Marathon 21.1km
The Half marathon is a test in places and not to be taken lightly , starting just next to Marsh barn, in the old pitch and putt gravel area the trail run takes us through the beautiful golf club and onto freshwater its flat for the first 3 km which is where the First Aid station is located, after this we meet our first hill, its short and sharp.
At the top we get our first glimpse of the sea before we head for Burton Bradstock's hive beach, once through the fields, we follow the coastline and head inland for a km, and the second feed at 10 km before heading back towards Hive beach, its all downhill and is track and trail.
We link back up with the 10 km route here and head towards the third feed at 17 km, this is when the fun really begins, once on the cliff path, you will realize why we have chosen this location,
its simply breathtaking, and the views (If there is no mist) are to die for, Its the Jurassic coast at its most superb.
The first parts of the Half are relatively flat but its the Jurassic coast so at some point its an up and down challenge that is not for the faint hearted.

Marathon 42.2km
An addition to the 2019 event will see us add a full trail marathon, its tough, very tough, and the cut off at 18.5 km will be strictly enforced,
but for those that are up for the challenge, come and run spectacular scenery.
